Though that will change in time as well. The more we rely on him, the more defenses will focus on him, the more often it will become the right answer to pass, and the more often it will be a pass to a guy who is in a good position to score. Everything in balance and moderation. If next year Monta is scoring 28 a game on 55% shooting, then perhaps I'm wrong, but that would be pretty astounding. I'm elated to see that we can put the ball in his hands and trust him to make good things happen, though. Much moreso than last year.

Yup. Unless he develops an outside shot, beyond 16 feet, he's pretty easy to shut down if defenses actually focus on him. Being the 3rd option helps him do what he do.

It isn't so much the turnovers, it's the kind of turnovers, lazy, stupid ones. That should be easy to correct, but who knows.

Turnovers aren't my greatest concern with Monta, it's his total lack of defense that should be more worrisome. Maybe if Baron is moved it might help, but he's got a long way to go before he even gets the fundamentals of D. And it doesn't look like anyone is coaching him.

Yes, there's definitely problems with just about everyone's D (you can even include Biedrens and Jack in that one too). I have to believe it's the system (if you want to call it one) that we play, I really think that it's screwed everyone's D up over the long haul. There were times even last year where guys like Baron were tearing it up defensively. There were times early in the year where Jack looked like he might have had a shot a DPY, at least all league defense. Not any more. So I'm going to hold out on condemning anybody as being defensive "busts" for the time being. I want to see what they do when it becomes more conventional. The problem that you run into in trying to discern a guys defensive abilities when playing the kind of schemes we do (rotating man, zone, etc.) guys get lost in the shuffle and you can't really tell what a guy can do one on one. One on one is when you kind out a guys ability to cover. When things keep changing around like they do, they tend to confuse guys I think and with all the low IQ guys we have I think it just makes matter worse. When you have these switching mechanisms employed, how you can you really tell when somebody gets blown by? It's pretty hard for me. Maybe a guy doesn't switch when he's supposed, maybe he doesn't call out the screen, etc. It's pretty hard unless you're down there on the floor to really know what's going down. Our defense is always changing just as our starting lineup. Hard to figure things out, especially for the players.

We've played plenty of man to man over the course of the season and it's been a disaster for young Monta.

Hey Souvs, who would you say has played consistently good man to man for us this season?

Laki conveniently forgetting the time the entire Boston team was putting 2 guys on Tay the entire game... we had to go traditional due to injuries..

How exactly did Monta do during that game? How bout the W's?

If Monta could D like Buke we's have a surefire franchise cornerstone... max him out.

Monta guarded Paul great when he was on him.... then we go to zone or have Monta on Peja, and what happens? Less effective. But that's just me, I just prefer to watch the games and pay attention. To each their own :D

Actually Kelenna has played some nice man to man. It's his rotations that are the sore spot.

LF510 seems to forget that one of the reasons that we play zone so much is to cover for Monta on the defensive end.

And yes, Buke does play consistently good man to man defense. Look at how often he blocks or effects the shot. It's also funny that people dog his rotations when the whole team is generally crappy at the zone we play. This team is seriously lazy on D most of the time (especially lately) and Buke is the exception.

Then why don't you? Nothing's stopping you.

Pretty desperate trying to point to a game 2 months ago where Monta supposedly didn't get burned. Funny stuff. Ray Allen had plenty of open looks and lit us up really nicely. Lets also not forget that Monta fooked up the last play of the game and almost cost us the game with his atrocious defense. Thanks for reminding me about that game.

Monta hasn't been good, but Buike is worse. He saves himself sometimes by getting blocks but overall his D is rancid.

I'd say Buike's man to man defense has gotten better over the season, definitely not rancid. Monta's problem is he gets lazy defensively.
