I blame Draymond for escalating. I don't blame Poole. But if Draymond ran up into my face I can tell you I would not try to push him unless I wanted to get my ass whooped.

I can't believe people have this view of it. You'd just stand there and let Draymond walk right into you and spit venom in your face? Because that's what was happening there. I don't just mean Poole's "personal space", the imaginary comfort zone around you. He was IN Poole's physical space. Maybe he's going to bit off your ear or something? Any reasonable person would push back on that. You HAVE to.

This right here. If someone is bodying you right up the instinctive reaction I'd argue is to push them away. Maybe if you grew up in certain areas you'd know the danger and have trained yourself not to react in such a way but I give zero excuse to the one getting that close no matter where it is and why I find it very hard to just ignore what Draymond did. Criticizing Poole for that little push he gave is tantamount to blaming the victim.

Or maybe just ignore them? Physical violence is not the only option.

Man code says Poole has to push Draymond.

If Draymond was a real street thug on the corner that you don't have to work with then screw man code, be a pussy, take the chest bump intimidation and don't get killed. But Draymond is only part street thug and part lovable teddy bear and he is also a teammate.

I have taken groups of San Quentin inmates to locations in Richmond and Oakland on their first day out of prison because no familiy came or friends came to pick them up. Even though there is a huge culture gap between me and those guys I felt safe with them. On their first day out of prison they were sweet and happy.

Again Draymond is the one who made it physical by being that close. It is difficult to ignore someone breathing in your face. The push that Poole gave was not violent. If what Draymond did is something people out there believe is okay then the more I want to see him punished—and severely— so that people start getting the idea that no it certainly is not.

Actually, its not that difficult to ignore. Its a choice.

Dray most definitely instigated the confrontation and he is 100% in the wrong. But lets not pretend the poole had to 100% push back.

I don't care if he pushed back. In that situation I excuse Poole 100%. Do you? If you don't then you encourage the behaviour Draymond displayed and I don't want anyone getting the idea what Draymond did is in any way acceptable.

People chirp. People argue all the time. And when they get in my face. I have a choice. I can ignore it or fight back. The point is that there isnt just 1 option. Poole made a choice. You can agree or disagree with the choice he made, but there is choice to be made.

Dray shouldnt have punched, but if he shoved poole instead, no one would be talking about this. No one is saying draymonds punch is acceptable. Ill repeat it. No one is saying draymonds punch is in any way acceptable.

The punch is inacceptable. The bodying up is also inacceptable.

Given that situation I want whoever is in Poole's situation to have the ability to push back. Indeed I wish to encourage it so that people get the idea that bodying people up like that is a loser of a move.

Some have raised legal definitions regarding this situation saying the punch was technically battery. I'm of the opinion the bodying up was basically assault.

Encouraging physical realiation isnt the only option (a shove is a physical retaliation). For some it seems like it is the first and only option. And that is what i disagree with.

Certainly it is not the only option but in a perfect world I would argue it would be the best option in that situation.

And really do you think this was the first time Draymond got in his face?

Also, it needs to be pointed out how absolutely crafty Poole's "push" of Draymond was. He put two hands in Draymond's chest, pushed...and flew back about a meter while Draymond basically stayed put. Expert level shove/non-shove.

Poole is clearly a lover, not a fighter.

Since you guys seem intent to continue with this, let's get into it...

Yes, under California law, Poole's shove was a battery committed against Draymond. However, Poole would have the affirmative defense of self-defense. The affirmative defense amounts to an admission of battery but only because the act was needed to protect one's self. The affirmative defense is presented to the jury in the form of instructions outlining the requirements for self-defense. Basically, the defendant asserts that (1) they reasonably believed that they were in imminent danger of suffering bodily injury (or were in imminent danger of being touched unlawfully), (2) they reasonably believed that the immediate use of force was necessary to defend against that danger and (3) they used no more force than was reasonably necessary to defend against that danger.

https://www.justia.com/criminal/docs/calcrim/3400/3470/

The elements of the jury charge are similar to those given in a civil case, except that the civil case jury instruction lacks the element of reasonable belief necessary in the criminal case jury instruction.

https://www.justia.com/trials-litigation/docs/caci/1300/1304/

All of which is completely extraneous information as long as you simply keep your hands and bodies to yourselves and play nice with others. Yet more proof that everything you ever really needed to know you learned in elementary school. :D However, in the event you still screw up, punch a cop and make matters worse by throwing all caution to the wind and choosing to defend yourself, do NOT forget to include somewhere in your oral argument the words...

Now, liberty, in case you've forgotten, is the soul's right
to breath. And when it cannot take a long breath, laws
are girdered too tight. Without liberty, man is a syncope!

Just remember to pronounce syncope correctly. :D

The narrative will change obviously if the Warriors go back to back and win their 5th championship WITH Draymond.

It will also change if the Warriors TRADE Draymond Green and don't win it all. I'm wondering what ownership is leaning towards.

If it's winning, you try to repair the damage.
If it's for future, you trade dray.

I agree 100%, but what if ownership has to choose one?! (I'd go championship)

Keeping dray and going for a b2b.

Kg punched rickert in practice and did more damage. I don't think there was a suspension nor people calling it an attempted murder. The biggest difference is the video. This will go away until the fans of the teams the dubs beat in the playoffs bring it up again.

Posted this on the GB already. The messaging from ‘Draymond's camp’ continues to be... suboptimal, to say the least.
