Why would a team trade a draft pick for an unrestricted free agent they can just sign outright?

That is a good question. Could be wrong (Probably am), but it's dependent on Oubre's asking -- Which will be too much for Warriors' liking. A sign-and-trade will be difficult as it'll further push Warriors beyond the Salary Cap and into Luxury Tax (Possibly repeat tax offender since they were over by $80 mil last season for using the TPE on Oubre?) when asking for a trade for a draft pick and a player near Oubre's new contract.

Realistically, we'll just lose out on getting any asset in return for Oubre (aka let him walk for nothing) and see it as a learning experience.

I would like to find a way to turn Oubre into Olynyk. No idea if the Rockets would be interested in helping the Warriors though.

I know this is the Draft thread ... but who would you like to bring in to the Oubre slot that might be possible?

The best I've found so far is Olynyk.

You're right, this is the draft thread and you guys follow these potential picks much closer than me, so I can't add anything to the topic. But as for S&T Oubre, I saw one suggestion I could like--Oubre S&T to Dallas for Dorian Finney-Smith and Dwight Powell. I think Dallas could use Oubre--whether those two guys would improve the Warriors, maybe, but at least they would hang onto the salary slot.

That salary slot thing is the tough part ... They don't want to use the money just to use it but I don't want to lose it either. Finney-Smith and Powell would work for me. Maybe they can convince Olynyk for the TPMLE.

Hey Devin, would you kindly write about how you value Wagner so highly?

I just don't see it with this player. I think he's lotto-bound, sure, but at 7/8, as you said, it would be a HUGE reach IMHO.

I don't think its a huge reach at all. Mocks get it wrong all the time. I say identify who you want at 7 or 8 and go for it. Get too cute and miss out.

Sorry mate, don't have much time now but regarding Franz, firstly, his defense reminds me of Klay big time. Not the best athlete in the gym but moves his feet well and uses his length to contest shots. If he can play and defend down/up a position, Warriors will have four players who can switch at the 2/3/4 spots. Defense!

He fills in gaps defensively. Was the best defender for one of the best if not the best defense in college. Can guard 2-4 and is good weak side help defender.

Offensively he’s a decent shooter and can make a few plays with the ball.

He’ll be a glue guy type of player who is just solid all around.

Thanks for the replies, both of you.

He seems to be a decent player. The question is, is there enough upside to justify taking him at 6?

At 14 he seems like a good pick, but at 6 there may be quite a few other good options besides him, right?

6 is too high since he doesn’t have all star upside. The top 5 plus sengun all have all star upside so they should be taken before Wagner.

At 14 though he’s solid and would fit well with this team as he knows how to play basketball and can play defense so he should be able to play right away even though he’ll only be 19.

Not sure why we are mocking for the 6 pick. There is a chance the pick is 6 or even 4 but the likely outcome (if it does convey) is 7 or 8.

Anyway, we shall see. You say Sengun (whom I think is overrated) and I say Wagner.

I think people are going off mocks, I see a lot of them have us/Minny* picking #6 for whatever reason

Because we don't know so it doesn't really matter until we do know.

I say the Warriors get #1 and #4 and draft Cade and Green.

To go that way the other team would have to have cap room to fit his salary. If they have the cap room they can just sign him directly and keep their draft picks. Highly unlikely, IMO.

Yeah, brain cramp on my part. You’re absolutely right.
If I don't have anything funny to say, can I still have a signature?

I'm saying outside of the top 5... I like Wagner above Sengun. Just my opinion. Will be interesting to see where they both end up.

Right now my tiers are

Tier 1
Mobley
Green
Cade

Tier 2
Suggs
Kuminga
Sengun

Tier 3
Giddey
Mitchell
Moody
JJ
Wagner

Sengun as a viable pick at #4 seems VERY high to me. Guess I'll have to take a closer look.

So if the Warriors end up with #1 and #4 do you go Mobley/Suggs or Cade/Sengun?

Sengun is an 18 year old dominating a men's league with physicality and craft. He's 6'10'' barefoot meaning he's like 6'11.5'' on the court with shoes. I'll have to see what his wingspan comes in at and if it comes in over 7' he might move into tier 1 for me.

I think Mobley is my top prospect for us. He is like the perfect fit for what we need. A 4/5 who can score and play a switch everything defense. He probably tops out as a no 2 option similar to AD, but he should be a fantastic finisher of plays. Then at 4 I guess I would take Suggs.

Jalen Johnson showed flashes of potential, but still a bit raw/green to Curry and gang's liking. I'd take BPA or go with Giddey or Sengun at the #14.

I'm reading a lot of blogs and YouTube videos of us trading Wiseman and our 2021 picks and future FRP for Sabonis. He'd be the ideal 5 to have (Not a consistent long ranger, though). With that being the case, I still don't think such a deal can happen. Indiana's still a competitive ballclub who just underachieved this season.
