Good times, good times.

Your guy, my guy, their guy, hurrah!

"Wasn't someone saying that same thing about Alston before he showed up on a team that just happens to be in the Finals?"
"Oh but he's killing them now eh!" "So? Your proven winner isn't there."

My mind is blown with excess insight and the sheer depth and breadth of perception.

Three cheers for arguing on things that can never be defined enough for anyone to make a point!!!

Ahhh....

But in a way it can be defined. Let's say Lakers win it this year. You could say that Pau, Kobe, and Lamar....maybe even fisher had a big part in getting the championship. IF they do that another time or have done it in the past. You can pretty much say, this player is a winner or rather "knows how to win."

Or you can be an a$s and nitpick and say but a certain player hasn't won 4/5 championships so he can't be a winner. Which is fine b/c the world needs as$holes.....

No one would say Robert horry with however many championships he has, a "loser." or Wilt Chamberlain....if you do, then you are a nitpicking....being a dick and probably need to spend less time on forums and more time in therapy.

Hey, no fair throwing my own strategies back at me!

Really though, point was to encourage more facts, less undefined/unbackable opinion. I presented Alston, and suppose that I could point out that Iverson's been labelled a "winner" throughout his career as well (how that happens via producing large amounts of inefficient output, I don't know). KG's been labelled a loser in spite of having fantastic output simply because his front office was run by people who enjoyed eating crayons (sadly, I have to admit that I bought into this notion for a bit back in 2003-5ish, but for somewhat defensible, though still wrong, reasons). Battier's won 0 championships, and only been anywhere in the playoffs this year, but he was a "winner" long before this year, in spite of the fact that he'd never professionally won anything. Fisher's a winner, not because he has 4 rings, but rather because he shoots 40% from 3p range while taking 1/3 to 1/2 of his shots from there, while providing very good defense (until recently), decent passing, rebounding and steals, with an exceptional turnover rate for a guard, no tendency to buckle under pressure, and all in relatively few minutes.

I could keep going with the list, but it's easier to make the point that in basketball, individually being a winner or loser has very little correlation to the actual results produced by your team. It's the same way that winning a championship doesn't remotely say that you're the best, but rather that in the year you won it, your team was at least pretty good.

(Also, as a programmer, I'm basically a professional nitpicker. As in all things, the severity/importance of the nits being picked varies. I just don't dig the whole "winner" bit - or most TV talking points for that matter, as they tend to grind on my ears - but yes, my bad, was being a bit of a overemphatic genital about it. Sry PR)

Yo Moofs,

I was just trying to give an example (not calling you a dick or a$shole) but there ARE some people that just like to be negative just to be negative. I'm just saying, if you play a role on a team and win championships, you can call it coincidence if you want.....and vice versa.

(btw the a-hole stuff referenced to Team america not moofs hahahha)

Well since no one else is going to do it, I guess I'll be the as$hole and nitpick just to be a dick: Walt Chamberlain [sic] was a loser who never won anything.

We're talking about Walt Chamberlain, not Wilt.

actually would be a good trade for both teams but id rather not have ray allen on my team, at the age he's at, he wouldnt be able to play at a high level in the long run.

Return to Houston Rockets
