i wont call those high lottery picks

blueprint is actually okc
3 high picks in durant, westbrook, and harden

imo cleveland should take lillard/barnes instead of waiters

A lot of guys on their board also wanted the big center out in Toronto instead of Thompson.

You ARE aware that you've just declared that your rebuilding strategy would be "eh, maybe I'll get incredibly stupid lucky", right? :-) The only other team I can think of that had anything like that happen to it was the 1980s Lakers. It's not a strategy, it's a confluence (and in the Lakers' case, they probably had some league help).

We've been stuck in the middle for a whole 3 years (2009-2012) after having been either contenders or highly competitive for about 3-4 (2005-2009).
Waiting on high draft picks frequently takes 10-30+ years. It can be harder since you really need 2+ high picks that pan out to superstar level within a 3 year window. It's hard enough to get ONE.
Talent accrual typically only takes 5-15 tops under competent management.

I'm just glad our management plays odds instead of playing for instant gratification and/or the "potential" card. He sortof plays the potential card all the time actually, but he uses it to sucker other teams instead of build ours. How many Beasleys do we have? Darkos? Davises? None? Nice. :-)

we were never a contender after hakeem era
just fans got all hype up with yao and t-mac thinking it will be shaq and kobe second coming
no superstar free agent want to play here unless you are contender
we don't have anyone that will attract people to come
will people want to play with lin and harden?
i don't know
right now unless you go after the #1 pick for star
you will keep having overpay for superstar pretender and avg players (definitely not going anywhere if your gm keep drafting for trade asset instead of need)
i said this many time
i have no problem if you don't want to tank
but don't traded away all your good players away to tank then decided you don't want to
sure if we didn't traded away lowry we will not get harden
but can't we at least re-sign Dragic and keep Scola?
this is like the owner want to try to compete but don't want to spend the money
Lin is not the answer

typical there are 4 ways to build a contender team

1. you're big market team, sorry we aint lakers or knicks, this is not the answer
2. draft yourself your own superstar, we did it once with hakeem, orlando got to final once with dwight howard, so is cleveland, and san anotonio got one that last for decade, yes this is playing luck
3. bunches of good players team - 2002 pistons, even tougher, chemistry need to be very good
4. keep drafting high potential star and hope some team try to cut cost will trade you their star to your team - 2008 celtics

(1) wont work because superstar wont sign here
(2) we aint doing that
(3) long way from it
(4) morey keep drafting best player available for trade asset, but team usually want young player with high potential not someone that played 3-4 years in college

We weren't front-runners, I'll grant you, but we were definitely in the running.

Who's overpaid for anyone here? Over the last 7 years we've mostly underpaid. Maybe Ariza. Maybe Scola. That's about it.

Check the Lowry thread. I think BayBaller gave a very good reason as to why Lowry was traded. I hadn't previously understood a good reason, either.

Lin is not the answer

Scola wasn't either. He was still probably worth his money. He mainly had to be amnestied because of the bad year he had last year and that the trade he was in was kiboshed, which nixed his chances here.

Dragic wanted the same money as Lin, is older, is relatively unproven as well, and doesn't provide marketing opportunities.

that's why it doesn't make sense
Morey go for the lesser player and younger player in Lin over Dragic
as if he was trying to rebuild the team and give more playing time to younger player
then all the sudden he traded all the future pieces for Harden
sure there is over 50% chance he still better than those we draft with those picks
but you don't have to offer him the max so soon
can't he at least wait until the end of the season?
did you know this is Morey first extension?

Watching the Sac/GS game. Crazy that all our Hou players are coming off the bench. Carl Landry vs Hayes/Brooks.

There was a time when those 3 were our key players. Takes me back.

watching cavs
they don't have to rely on irving to create shot for every position
they have players that can create for themselves because they got playing time and know how to play the game
maybe drafting waiters isn't a bad thing for them afterall

Return to Houston Rockets
