Word is that Petersen is either in Madison already, or is flying in tonight. Been consistent conflicting reports on that. The only thing I've heard for sure is that Boise State is holding a presser later today and Petersen will not be a part of it.

Also:
@vitostellino: Mel Tucker says he talked to Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez last Friday night. Said not interested "at this time.''

Barry seems to be all in on CP. Go get your guy, you crazy S.O.B.

For the record, it was Tucker who said he wasn't interested at this time.

Seems SOP anytime someone knows they aren't going to get the gig they pre-empt with a "not interested" or "withdrawing my name from consideration".

Here's BB sending Arkansas AD a hand written note after the Petrino scandal.

Jeff,

Just wanted to say that this note is long past due. As I watched your press conference this past spring I wanted to reach out and say how much I respected your actions but more importantly your words. As a head coach I know that my comments are looked at in every way possible. Here at UW I have a great AD because he is a man of his word and asks the same for all of us. Best wishes moving forward and say strong. It was the right call!

Best wishes,

Bret

P.S. One thing I have learned through my time here at UW is that today’s society wants to win them all, but as Coaches and Administrators we need to balance the Big Picture for all our student athletes!

RT @BSUDave: Boise State AD Coyle said Petersen has not informed him that he'll interview elsewhere. He is in Boise not Madison.

He also did not do his scheduled press conference today. It's sounding more and more like a UW hype train, but still too early to know. No definitive word yet.

Might just be me......but this certainly sounds like there is more than a little interest to me (audio available somewhere)

A Transcript of the last 90 seconds of that press conference.

Reporter: "Have you been contacted by Wisconsin?"
Tucker: "You know what, I have talked to Coach Alvarez, he's uh, I was in his first recruiting class in 1990 and uh, so, um, I'm very close to Coach Alvarez and um we have stayed in touch over the years and um we have talked from time to time and but um there's nothing really there to report and um there is nothing more than that."
Reporter: "Will you talk to him about the job opening? You going to interview for it?"
Tucker: "Well there's really not an interest on my part at this time so uh, that's kind of where it is right now, but yeah I have talked to Coach Alvarez."
Reporter: "You're not interested at the head coaching job at Wisconsin?"
Second reporter: "At this time, he said." (crowd chuckles) (Tucker smiles)
Tucker: "At this time."
Reporter: "Then wait till the season ends?"
Tucker: "I tell you what, I got my hands full right here, and uh so uh we're just going to take it one day at a time, but have I talked to Coach Alvarez yes I have."
Reporter: "When was that?"
Tucker: "That was on Friday evening."
Reporter: "And he didn't offer you a job?"
Tucker: "Absolutely not."
Reporter: "Do you think you will be a head college coach some day?"
Tucker: "Uh, you know, that has not been part of my thinking, um, and uh, so it's not really been my focus right now, so uh, really right now it's all about Miami."
Reporter: "Would you prefer being a head coach in the NFL than college?"
Tucker: "Really right now I don't have a preferance in terms of any of that right now. It's really comes down to this team right now today, and we'll just take from there and uh, there's really no news there."

^ Wouldn't surprise me if there's official interest once the Jags are done, of course.

No doubt in my mind that Tucker, deep down, has some real interest in the prospect of taking over as his alma mater's head coach. My bet is he is tongue in cheek about it since he and Barry are so close. Barry was probably very real with him, telling him that we are exploring other options but that it may come down to him if those end up being dead ends.

EDIT: And the whole Jags season thing, I'm sure Tuck wants to keep focused and not create a distraction.

Tucker fits a lot of the criteria, he is a Badger, has had some brief NFL head coaching experience, a very good d-coordinator, I believe he has quite a few coaching connections, has Florida connections.

Twitter has been a misbehaving whore today. I'm not believing anything until tomorrow's lies begin.

That said, I struggled to get excited about a potential Golden hire. Not mad if it turns out to be true.

Agreed. He was a meh candidate in my book, behind guys like Tucker, Petersen, etc., but ahead of Childress or Bevell.

University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez will receive additional compensation of $118,500 for coaching UW in the Rose Bowl.

The plan was approved Tuesday by the Executive Committee of the UW System Board of Regents.

According to UW officials:

The funds will come from the $1 million contract buyout of former coach Bret Bielema. Bielema took over as head coach at Arkansas, which is paying the buyout.

After Bielema’s unexpected departure to take the Arkansas head coaching job last week, several veteran UW players asked Alvarez to coach the Badgers against Stanford in the Rose Bowl and he agreed.

For the month of December, Alvarez will receive 90% of Bielema’s monthly football coaching salary ($195,000) plus 10% of his current athletic director salary ($8,500), for a total of $203,500.

That represents a one-time $118,500 increase in his monthly salary.

Alvarez told reporters Friday after an athletic board meeting he would receive 1/12th of Bielema's annual compensation package ($2.6 million), with approval by the Board of Regents. That would have been about $217,000.

If the Badgers win the Rose Bowl, Alvarez will be eligible for a $50,000 bonus under the UW athletic board's existing post-season bonus policy. That bonus amount would be identical to what Bielema would have received for winning the bowl game.

“We weighed the factors involved, including the unique circumstances that developed less than a month before the game, the challenges of the job, the marketplace and his strength as a coach and concluded that this is a reasonable arrangement,” Brent Smith, President of the UW System Board of Regents, said in a release.

Interim Chancellor David Ward agreed.

“Coach Alvarez has a one-of-a-kind skill set that the university needs to be successful – both in the Rose Bowl and in attracting the best coaching candidates in the search for someone to lead the Badgers’ football program going forward,” Ward said in a release. “We believe that this package is fair and proportional.”

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

$50,000 bonus seems a little light for winning the second most prestigious Bowl. I spent a summer compiling coaching contracts for a database and I ran across a lot of contracts that had much more lucrative bonuses for Bowl wins. The most ridiculous bonuses I came across were from Oregon. Oregon assistant coaches get a $5-10,000 bonus just for beating Oregon State. But I guess you can have bonuses like that when you have Phil Knight bankrolling your athletic department.
