Jeff,
Just wanted to say that this note is long past due. As I watched your press conference this past spring I wanted to reach out and say how much I respected your actions but more importantly your words. As a head coach I know that my comments are looked at in every way possible. Here at UW I have a great AD because he is a man of his word and asks the same for all of us. Best wishes moving forward and say strong. It was the right call!
Best wishes,
Bret
P.S. One thing I have learned through my time here at UW is that today’s society wants to win them all, but as Coaches and Administrators we need to balance the Big Picture for all our student athletes!

RT @BSUDave: Boise State AD Coyle said Petersen has not informed him that he'll interview elsewhere. He is in Boise not Madison.

That said, I struggled to get excited about a potential Golden hire. Not mad if it turns out to be true.
University of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez will receive additional compensation of $118,500 for coaching UW in the Rose Bowl.
The plan was approved Tuesday by the Executive Committee of the UW System Board of Regents.
According to UW officials:
The funds will come from the $1 million contract buyout of former coach Bret Bielema. Bielema took over as head coach at Arkansas, which is paying the buyout.
After Bielema’s unexpected departure to take the Arkansas head coaching job last week, several veteran UW players asked Alvarez to coach the Badgers against Stanford in the Rose Bowl and he agreed.
For the month of December, Alvarez will receive 90% of Bielema’s monthly football coaching salary ($195,000) plus 10% of his current athletic director salary ($8,500), for a total of $203,500.
That represents a one-time $118,500 increase in his monthly salary.
Alvarez told reporters Friday after an athletic board meeting he would receive 1/12th of Bielema's annual compensation package ($2.6 million), with approval by the Board of Regents. That would have been about $217,000.
If the Badgers win the Rose Bowl, Alvarez will be eligible for a $50,000 bonus under the UW athletic board's existing post-season bonus policy. That bonus amount would be identical to what Bielema would have received for winning the bowl game.
“We weighed the factors involved, including the unique circumstances that developed less than a month before the game, the challenges of the job, the marketplace and his strength as a coach and concluded that this is a reasonable arrangement,” Brent Smith, President of the UW System Board of Regents, said in a release.
Interim Chancellor David Ward agreed.
“Coach Alvarez has a one-of-a-kind skill set that the university needs to be successful – both in the Rose Bowl and in attracting the best coaching candidates in the search for someone to lead the Badgers’ football program going forward,” Ward said in a release. “We believe that this package is fair and proportional.”
