Same ole Brett.

Post#1 » by upnorthfan » Mon Jan 25, 2010 1:53 pm

The Minnesota Viking fans found out last night what Packers fans have known and experienced for a long time...Brett Favre will get only so far this past decade, but never completely over the top.

Case in point, while with the Packers in the last decade he threw 5, 5 and 6 interceptions in playoff games, threw a criticle pic against Philly the Pack eventually lost, threw one two years ago in the NFC championship game against the Giants in overtime similar to the one he threw last night against the Saints.

His last three seasons with Green Bay he threww 62 interceptions, and then 22 while with the Jets. Packer fans loved Brett pre drama queen years, but the last four seasons in Green Bay, his retiring/unretiring act eventually wore out his welcome.

He had alienated himself in the locker room, refused to help young quarterbacks in the teams system, and had his own locker in a private room away from the rest of the team.

He was uncoachable, so Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy decided it was time to retire him, offering him 25 million over the next ten years to make three or four public appearances a year.

Brett refused to go quitely, holding the Packers for ransom and making a specticle of himself with a public fued with the Packers, who always tried to do right by him.

So now here he is throwing another interception in a big game, just as he had done the last eight years in GB.

In three years he will be reveered in Wisconsin once again, but for the time being he is thought of around these partsas a jerk, a prima dona and an over egotisitcal bastard. If he wouldn't have played the he said she game childish games he did publically with the Pack, telling one rediculous lie after another, all the things he did on the field would have been over looked, but instead it was always all about him, and for that Brett Favre, you have tarnished your image in the short term.

In the long term, people will come around and will always appreciate the dedication, the toughness and the incredible plays you laid out there on the field, putting GB back on the NFL map.

So I say thanks BRETT for all the memories, you are a one of a kind warrior. Now go retire, STFU, and let us all remember you the way we all wanted to in the first place., as a HOF quarterback who led us to a championship (although you blew three others not countong the Vikings).

Thanks Brett, now go home, and oh yeah, the 25 million offer the Pack showed you two years ago is off the table :)

Favre had a great year. He made an incredibly dumb pass at the end of the game, but I don't think anyone can say we would have been better off with someone else at QB. I hope he comes back next year.

He did have a good regualer season. Lets hope he doesn't him haw back and forth three or four times before deciding to retire, then show up in August saying he wants to try it again.

He played that song with the Packers for a few years and trust me, it gets old real quick.

I'll assume that he will wait until August, but I think we have to accept that. I don't see a better option available. We're talking about a MVP caliber QB, if he wants to come back he can come back.

Totally agree with WormGuts. It's not like there was some better option waiting in the wings. W/out Favre this is ~10 win team and not much of a threat in the playoffs. With Favre you're a play away from the SB. I see absolutely no reason for regrets w/r/t bringing in Favre, but frustration is understandable just from being so close.

If you think Tavaris Jackson or Rosenfels yield a better chance to beat the Saints, feel free to disagree.

I hate the Vikings, but don't really get off on kicking people when they're down. You guys had a great season.

I too don't mean to kick Viking fans while they are down, but I love doing it to Brett, and in doing so Minnesota fans unfortunately are collateral damage.

No doubt the Viking were a better team with Favre. The Packers on the other hand are a better team with A Rod. Who would you rather have as your QB next season moving forward? Favre or Rodgers?

It's Rodgers hands down.

You're pushing it here, but maybe you should save the gloating for a year when Aaron Rodgers plays and the Vikings don't end up winning the division.

Saying we lost the game because of Farve makes no sense. That last interception was stupid but you can't say that is the reason we lost. It was because of Farve we were still in the game with 2 minutes to go.

I'd take Farve again in a heart beat. He was getting creamed in the game and he kept coming back. I can't speak for Packers fans but if you asked them who they would of rather had the last 2 years Farve or Rodger, I bet a lot of them would say Farve. For the future no doubt anyone would take Rodgers, but this last season for sure a lot would take Farve.

If Farve comes back I'm sure we will have to deal with him going back and forth and not desiding until Aug what he is going to do, I'm willing to deal with that. And I'm sure the Vikings are willing to deal with it to. What Farve did this year for the Viknigs was amazing. Even at 41, I'll take him.

Well, we either let him do what he wants, or dive back into the Tarvaris Jackson era.

Easy choice for me.

You guys are right. Without Brett I do not think the Vikings get where they got, but now you guys have to deal with the back breaking ints that we have had to live with for awhile now. I am not a Brett hater nor Brett lover anymore but if they retire his number here I would be ok with it. The only thing I cant stand is Packer fans wearing the the # 4 Vikings uniform. They are not you and they are not us Packer fans. They are lost souls forever. :D

He is a restricted free agent. I don't see another team giving up a draft pick to sign him, but you never know.

qb is going to be a tough call, the team will be a in difficult spot because it will largely depend on whether brett comes back but he probably won't decide until august again

i imagine they will keep him (Tjax) especially if they don't get anyone in the draft

I like how Packers fans come to the Viking boards to tell them about Favre. I think they know all about Favre, and everyone knows Favre is #1 for most interceptions every thrown so its not a suprise when he throws one.

Same people I would have to go to work with or see in bars, clubs and so on that would try to rip the crap out of me because i didn't worship Favre as a god. When Drew brees was gonna get traded I went on about how the Packers should get him and dump Favre and I was lauphed at, same when I said after a Cowboys game 2 years ago that Rodgers is better then Favre and should start over him.

Vikings are a better team then the Packers, Packers have the better Qb though its not rocket science. Also Favre is better then any Qb the Vikings have had since a healthy Culpepper.

Rodgers wasn't better than Favre this year, and he's got a long way to go before he can have a better career.

I certainly don't blame you for welcoming Favre (note the spelling) back for another run--he's an all-time great and time has been relatively kind to him--but most Packer fans are pretty happy with Rodgers' development. I would take him over Favre solely for the fact that we play outside and weather really affects Favre now.

I'm wondering, though, hypothetically speaking: let's say Favre can't decide whether or not to come back and play another season. In the meantime, McNabb is available and ready to suit up. Do you wait on Favre and risk ending up with some career backup pulling the strings to your offense? Or are you proactive with McNabb and ensure that your QB helps you win some games?

Don't want Favre back. Only Farve. He's better. Note the spelling.

My bad on the spelling...

That is a decision the Vikings are going to have to make. Waiting for Favre and maybe being handcuffed on other moves if he doesn't come back or moving on. If I were them I would look at the draft to see if there is a QB they like available with their first few picks and if there is take him. Then just go on knowing that if Favre isn't coming back you will have to go with Tavaris or Sage, but with the draft pick have a long term plan. Whether it is Favre, Tavaris, or Sage starting next year, they need to figure something out for the long term. Although McNabb would buy a few years with that, I'd rather figure something out now.

I caught a little of Chilly's press conference today at work, but I think he did mention looking at QBs in the draft.
