Besides his gun collection and his poker incident, has Gilbert Arenas got in much trouble outside of basketball? Honestly, i would take a chance on Arenas if it came in a cheap way, aka, Wiz buy him out and Pacers sign him for cheap. We have been cleaning our image for years and as a result from it, we've been in the lottery each year and there doesn't really seem to be much light at the end of the tunnel. I hate to bring this up again but i saw a documentary on Portland Trail Blazers GM Prichard, who's job was also clean their image from the "Jail Blazers" and he also put up a winner. He said in the show that he has personally passed up on several players mainly due to questionable off-court incidents. He said it's some of the hardest things he's had to do. But, he said (and this was prior to the Bayless, Rush draft) that a time will have to come where they can afford a bad apple or a "risk" player.
It may be time for Indiana to be able to sneak away with one as well. In this situation, he would come cheap and any strike against him, he'd be out of the league. I recall Larry Bird falling in love with Tyreke Evans last draft. a great talent but does has some shady incident on his record. So maybe, Bird knows, the next step is close.
I don't know if 2010 is the time, or maybe 2011 or maybe even 2012, but sooner then later, the Pacers will get a troubled player in here with loads of talent, it will be a PR mess if he messes up but they won't be going after the clean image forever.
Their image is cleaned. Now they have to win. But, problem is, the guys on this squad right now are not ones who can win.... Arenas would put us closer to winning.
