Him being available because he hasn't played well doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Otherwise, Atlanta has hit on other wing drafting (Hunter and Huerter) and signings (Bogdan Bogdanovic), so it’s hard to see Reddish ascend more than the 4th wing.

Acquiring those other players at his position is not a vote of confidence by Atlanta, either.

Technically, Hunter and Huerter were there first  Bogdan was the only one added after he was there.

He’s long, and a good defender, though. Lockdown? Not yet, but he’s good there.

Finally, some good news?

Look, I know it sounds like I'm ragging on him, but this draft is our best chance to add real quality, cheaply, in some time. I'd just hate to see us mess it up.

No worries. I definitely wouldn’t trade out of the draft for him. But trade down, and still get another guy that could help us long term sounds pretty interesting. And, Reddish is still young and talented, and the hope is that he’s been working out of the growing pains of his career in Atlanta and is ready for a bigger role soon. :dontknow:

Think of it like a Jermaine O’Neal type acquisition of a “second draft” kind of guy.

theAthletic has a long article on Mitchell. if you subscribe, see if you don't want him at 13 after reading it.

If it came down to Duarte or Kispert, I'd easily take Duarte. He strikes me as a guy who doesn't back down from a challenge. You can see it just by looking at his NCAA tourney stats. Although that is a small sampling, it is also when the stage gets bigger, the lights get brighter, and the pressure gets higher.

I'd be disappointed. Using the first lottery pick we've had in 6 years to take a guy who will be a solid replacement for Doug McD. I'd like to think there will be an opportunity to aim higher. Preparing to be underwhelmed.

Uh, I’m not 100% that I believe this. Like, I totally believe that this is what is being talked about to reporters like J.Michael. However, at this time, there is absolutely NO reason for decision makers to be honest, whatsoever, with anyone outside of their draft room as to who they REALLY want to draft. It gains them nothing. And it getting out only makes it harder to get the guys they supposedly want. :dontknow:

Yeah, this would disappoint me, but there seems to be rumors around that the Lakers are trying to move up to take Duarte so maybe this is a way of making sure that they feel they have to move all the way up to our #13 to get him rather than trading with a team behind us? I'm not big on Kispert either. Moody was my earlier hope, but he seems to have moved up out of our range. I can talk myself into Davion Mitchell. If it's between Duarte and Kispert then I prefer to just trade back and pick up something else and miss out on both of them.

Whoever they draft, they just need to start doing a better job of finding opportunities and a role for the rookies

Imagine if Reggie had to go through the same development arc as Aaron, spending half of his rookie season sitting on the bench not getting to play

I don't recall who was ahead of Reggie, if anyone, but I do recall Paul George's rookie year. he didn't become a factor until the playoffs. we lost to Chicago but he showed he could guard Rose. you can also find lots of people who will tell you that Tinsley was ruined when Zeke didn't make him earn a starting spot but handed it to him in training camp. defense is what will get a rookie on the court unless the starters are bad and ours are not.

Wouldn’t that really be motivation to get those teams to move up to 12, though? Like, if we try and sell that we like Duarte, and the Lakers want Duarte, if we are willing to trade the pick to get Duarte to them, we are being pretty clear we actually don’t want Duarte…right?

Now, I could see teams like us and GSW saying Duarte in that he realistically should be going 17-22 kind of range, so we’d have reason to trade down and still think we could get him, and these teams behind us would then have interest in trading up to 13 to get ahead of 14, 15, 16, etc. :dontknow:

I mean, why say anything at all about any player?

4D Chess!

I saw this blurb yesterday implying that the Lakers wanted to move up past the Wiz. I assumed this was us pressuring them to trade with us rather than the Warriors, but I don't really want whatever the Lakers have so I don't know why we'd care. I'm just spitballing based on this.

The demand for Oregon’s Chris Duarte has risen, and there is a good chance he doesn’t make it past the Washington Wizards at No. 15. He recently worked out for the Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks. I reported the Golden State Warriors brought him back for a second workout this past weekend. The Los Angeles Lakers have also shown interest in Duarte and have made calls to try to move up. The 24-year-old is considered a surefire rookie contributor with valuable shooting skills and defensive toughness.

No, I get that. But if the Lakers want the same guy that we’re reported as wanting, they wouldn’t try and trade with us. They would trade with the team RIGHT IN FRONT of us. In theory, if we wanted the same guy, we wouldn’t trade with them, knowing that we’re going to lose him for sure.

Sounds like a copy of what the Colts put online. Will watch.

EDIT was an edited video from a press conference. Hardly the feature videos the Colts released but maybe more will come after the draft.

So Duarte is wanted now by Knicks, Warriors, Lakers, Wizards and maybe Pacers. Interesting on top of rumor Atlanta wants #13 for Reddish.

Just got off a subscribers only zoom call with Chad Ford. both Pacers and Knicks are telling him 19 and 21 won't get the 13. He suspects we're asking for Toppin.

In addition to the 19 and 21? Instead of one of the picks? Or instead of both picks?

He didn't say but I took him to mean we've asked for him to be in addition to the two picks and NY hasn't agreed. you'd assume that NY would counter with one of the picks or one and the 32 but all we know for sure is no deal has been made and I doubt one will be made until we know who's on the board at 13 (and if NY failed to move up still higher).
