They'll trade out of the #1 spot IMO. They'd be morons not to...

Oh wait, never mind.

Tremaine Edmunds - LB - Hokies

Virginia Tech LB Tremaine Edmunds ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds.

No real surprise here, but Edmunds was one of the fastest linebackers on display in Indianapolis on Sunday. He posted that 4.54-second time after measuring into the combine at 6-foot-5, 253 pounds. Viewed by many as the top linebacker in this class due to his blend of pure athleticism, size and elite tackling ability, Edmunds has top-10 potential for April. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein has compared him to former Bears standout Brian Urlacher.

Mason Rudolph - QB - Cowboys

Walter Football passes along that Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph has met with the Arizona Cardinals at the NFLj Scouting Combine.

The Cardinals hold the No. 15 selection in the first round, but that draft slot is probably too rich for Rudolph. More realistically, we could see Arizona targeting the gunslinger with the No. 47 pick, in Round 2. That feels on the money to us in terms of his selection point. We wouldn't stretch further due to concerns over Rudolph's on-field processing speed and tendency to lock onto his receivers.

Jerome Baker - LB - Buckeyes

Ohio State LB Jerome Baker ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Speed is one of Baker's calling cards and he did not disappoint in his Sunday sprint through the 40-yard dash. The 6-foot-1, 229-pounder also posted nice jumps of 36.5 inches (vertical) and 126 inches (broad). While Baker has athletic upside, an AFC defensive coach told NFL Media's Lance Zierlein earlier this winter that the linebacker -- a potential Day 2 selection for the spring -- "just doesn't have much grit to his game."

Malik Jefferson - LB - Longhorns

Texas LB Malik Jefferson ran the 40-yard dash in 4.52 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Jefferson (6'3/236) not only posted one of the faster 40-yard dashes by a linebacker in Indianapolis, he also showed off his athletic wares with a 36-inch vertical jump and a 125-inch broad jump. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein has concerns about Jefferson's football IQ and on-field mentality. The analyst stamps him with a grade for Round 3.

I like Trumain Edmonds or Davenport for the 49ers.

I think we'll end up with Quentin Nelson.

I got Trumain Edmonds going three to Indianapolis.

I got Barkley going number one to the Browns and Darnold going four to the Browns.

Roquan Smith - LB - Bulldogs

Georgia LB Roquan Smith was red-flagged medically "by a number of teams," according to Tony Pauline.

With that said, Pauline suggests it will not "drag" down Smith's evaluation. We interpret that as teams outside of the range of Smith's projection might have concerns and his top 10 fit is still in place. This is something to monitor as we move forward.

I’m starting to like Davenport too.

Actually I like everyone on your list and you can also throw in Denzel Ward’s name on there.

Saquon Barkley - RB - Nittany Lions

Saints coach Sean Payton told the MMQB's Peter King that Penn State RB Saquon Barkley is the best RB prospect he's seen in 25 years.

King adds another team he spoke with handed Barkley a perfect grade, only the fifth in the last 20 years. That is quite a statement. Payton was a focal point in trading a future second-round pick to acquire Alvin Kamara last offseason, so his running back evaluations should be heavily respected. To put 25 years in perspective, that is a higher grade than Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, Trent Richardson, Darren McFadden, Reggie Bush, Ronnie Brown, Cedric Benson, LaDainian Tomlinson, Jamal Lewis, Edgerrin James, Ricky Williams, Curtis Enis, Ki-Jana Carter, Marshall Faulk and Garrison Hearst. Every one of those names was selected in the top five.

Josh Rosen - QB - Bruins

The MMQB's Peter King cites NFL sources stating UCLA QB Josh Rosen "helped his cause" at the 2018 NFL Combine bost as a thrower and in interviews.

It did come with this conditional statement from one coach. "Will his teammates gravitate to him? And he’s not a very big kid—can he be good enough in the pocket and avoid sacks?" At 226 pounds, Rosen is heavier than Sam Darnold among others. The potential issue is Rosen is far less mobile, so taking full hits in the pocket is a potential flaw. We know Rosen has a history of head and shoulder issues. Still, it is great to see Rosen (mostly) break away from the narrative that he is a difficult personality. We loved hearing his answers in media sessions.

Isaiah Oliver - DB - Buffaloes

Colorado CB Isaiah Oliver ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

On a defensive backs testing days which has seen multiple runs under 4.40 seconds, Oliver came up a little bit slower. Still 4.50 seconds is good enough for government work, as they say. The 6-foot, 201-pounder possesses serviceable size and insanely long arms, with his wingspan measuring at an airplane-esque 80 5/8 inches. NFL Media's Lance Zierlein notes that Oliver "has a high ceiling as a bump-and-run, lockdown corner, but might benefit from a limited role his rookie season." He'll be in the Day 1 conversation come April.

Derwin James - DB - Seminoles

Florida State S Derwin James says the Dallas Cowboys will need to trade up if they want to pick him.

On Sunday, James was asked about Cowboys fans posting photos of him in a Cowboys jersey on social media. He responded: "I think it's a good compliment, but I don't think I'll go that late. I feel like once I come out and show people what I can do, and once I'm done with these meetings, I feel like they'd have to trade up to get me." Dallas owns the No. 19 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. So far, the 6-foot-3, 213-pounder has gone through formal interviews at the NFL Combine with the Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers and Minnesota Vikings, but not the Cowboys. "Safety and slot corner (nickelback), those are the two positions most teams are talking about," James said. "... They moved me around a lot (at FSU). I can do it all -- I can play deep, I can play the tight end, I can play in the box, I can blitz, whatever you need."

Derwin James - DB - Seminoles

Florida State S Derwin James ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

James measured into the combine at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds and proceeded to crush athletically. That started with the bench press -- where he put up 21 reps -- and continued on Monday. Not only did James excel in the 40-yard dash, he did likewise with the vertical leap, where he notched a 40-inch jump. This was the kind of impressive showing that we expected to see from the safety in this setting. The future Round 1 pick has put in formal interviews with the Seahawks, Raiders, 49ers, Packers, Chargers and Vikings while in Indianapolis.

This NFC Scout has it right on this assessment of him. I’d like to piggyback on that by saying that he should consider making a position switch to playing safety. It worked out very well for Malcom Jenkins.

Tony Brown - DB - Crimson Tide

Alabama CB Tony Brown's official forty time at the NFL Combine was 4.35.

Brown (5'11/199) ran one of the fastest 40 times among all defensive backs. This isn't surprising as Brown was a high-school 100-meter state champion. An NFC area scout said, "He's not going to make plays in passing game, but he's really physical against the run. When you draft him you know he's going to immediately help you on special teams and against the run." NFL.com's Lance Zierlein projects him to be selected in Round 4 and compares him to Patriots CB Johnson Bademosi due to his special teams prowess.

Jaire Alexander - DB - Cardinals

Louisville CB Jaire Alexander ran the 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

A stellar showing by Alexander in the signature sprint after he measured into the combine at 5-foot-11, 192 pounds. The Louisville corner struggled with injury this past season, but Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom -- who's very high on Alexander -- likes what he's seen on tape during his previous, healthy campaigns. Nystrom ranks him as the No. 4 cornerback in the 2018 draft class.

Carlton Davis III - DB - Tigers

Auburn CB Carlton Davis III ran the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Davis measured in at 6-foot-1, 203 pounds, a palatable size for a corner. His 40-yard dash was less noticeable, with that mark of 4.54 seconds falling short of the five-year average for the position. Rotoworld's Thor Nystrom was looking for strong testing results from Davis in Indianapolis as the corner tries to gain a foothold in the first round. He may well be knocked out of the running for such an early slot, now.

Listening to Colin Cowherd talk draft is painful. I think he thinks he watches more than he actually does and I think he thinks if he knows a bunch of fringe information about a bunch of guys that that's enough to do extended draft segments and come off as a draft guy that fans can turn to. I also think a chunk of the stuff he says is stuff is MORE stuff he gets from others through his connections rather than opinions he formulates on his own but in the end it's mostly a bunch of nothing. Granted in some ways I'd rather a writer do the work and get stuff from football people than do the acting game but the way in which he tries to do the insider stuff is hard to watch. A part of me honestly feels bad for him.

And I know there's a LOT of anti Cowherd guys out there. He's a mixed bag for me usually. I like a lot of the practical stuff about him and how he looks at a lot of these companies, athletes, organizations, etc.. There's some life skills stuff that he does that I think is good radio but there's also some other stuff he does, like when he tries to do insider stuff, that makes me feel bad for the guy.

Anyway...

Whoa! I thought he ran much faster than that when I saw it live? I could have sworn it said four/four - nine or something!?

Also, Tolliver not running is not making things better for him. Disappointed that he chose not to run.

Return to San Francisco 49ers
