THIS WAS WAYYY TOO EXPENSIVE.

I'm happy we are moving up for a QB, but 3 1sts and a 3rd?

Technically it is 2 firsts and a 3rd. The third was a comp pick because of Saleh, and in reality the 2022/2023 picks should be in the 20s or hopefully last.

I wonder if we are trading Jimmy G now and just riding with Fields or Wilson

I want to. If we can get the Patriots to give us a 3rd or 2nd for Jimmy, you have to take it.

That is alot to give up. It is a risk. They better not screw this pick up. They could still keep Jimmy G this year rather than roll with a rookie but it must be QB and Jimmy Gs time is limted

I mean if we ever want a game changing QB we have to take the risk at some point or luck into a top 5 pick with a QB class like this one

This is just rolling with Jimmy as a lame duck. Trade him now while he has some value to the Pats. Then sign Alex Smith to be the vet mentor.

Niners fans. We want Wilson over any quarterback besides Lawerence. He would THRIVE with Shannahan

We really need the cap space next year and beyond for Warner and Bosa extensions. This move makes sense, but I agree 2 1st round picks was too much. That's the cost for one of the premier QBs

3 FRPs to move up 9 spots.

If they miss with this, it's the end of ShannaLynch.

What is odd is a rookie QB would be on a different timeline than a lot of the other core players. Well Bosa is still young but pretty much everyone else is in their mid 20s or older?

The OL is old too.

If we moved up to take one of Fields or Jones ShannaLynch is certainly done for

This is where I'm at. Wilson has been my guy for awhile. Its long been rumored that 9ers have been interested in him as well. If I remember correctly, Lynch even watched Wilson play in person.

This is a super expensive trade, and its far from guaranteed to work out. I do have to wonder why they decided to pull the trigger on this at this point in time. Seems very risky they might not get their guy. Or perhaps they have Lawrence/Wilson/Fields pretty closely rated and would be happy with any one of them.

Holy ****. Did not see this coming. At least not at this juncture. I'm generally not a big fan of trading up before the draft actually happens, unless it's to #1. Who knows what the teams ahead of you do? What if a team jumps up to #2 and grabs the QB you love? It's also a very steep price tag, though about what you'd expect to move up nine spots for a QB. But that's basically enough to have landed Watson prior to his massage issues.

That said, this team desperately needs a young QB to develop. And the future picks will hopefully be very late in the round. Having a young QB can make all the difference. We clear tons of cap space by ditching Garoppolo, and should be able to keep our nucleus together. It was probably this or letting guys like Warner and possibly Bosa walk when they came up for extension. No rookie QB has even reached the SB, though no rookie QB has ever played with the sort of supporting cast we will have. Pressure is on to perform immediately, which is not typically the sort of situation I would want to throw a rookie QB into, but so it goes.

I am not arguing against taking a risk. My only point is don't screw it up. A Thomas level bad pick here better not happen

I wouldn't be sure they let Jimmy G go this year. Can't rule it out although Shanahan came out and said Jimmy G will still be on the team this year.

This could be very damaging long term if they screw this up.

My first thought was that they were going to end up taking Jones. Ha! I can't see them doing that. I need to go back and watch Fields more. Only game I saw of him was the championship game, and he looked pretty darn shaky there. But he's accurate, athletic, and plays well in structure. I can see why he would appeal to Shanahan.

I'm not sure how you can screw it up, it will either be Fields or Wilson whoever is left after the Jets pick. The only way would be if they went with Lance

If this pick bombs out, then they screwed up. No one knows how any of these Qbs will turn out. Shanahyn/Lynch are being paid to pick the right one.
