wow I can't believe it... it's like our ex-players are trying to help us.

Shaq going to Phoenix is gonna mess up their offense. George blocks a trade that would have given them tripple-double threat Kidd? it's like the stars are lining up for the Lakers to get to the Finals!!!!

No point in going to the finals until we play better defense than the Spurs. If we don't, the Celtics will sweep us. They just killed off a healthy Spurs team, without KG. I think SAS put up 79 points. Spurs gave up eighty something points, which ended up being too many.

Thanks, Devean, I guess. I like how thin they would have been with Kidd, though. I'm not so sure about Shaq helping us yet. Shaq is Shaq.

Defense. defense, defense...

I said 2 weeks ago when the Lakers made the Gasol trade that it would send off a domino effect through out the Western Conference, I even post a thread on the subject since it was a valid point.

But Phil2.0 locked it saying, "Don't try to play fortune teller". It wasn't about trying to play it's about knowing the league a lot better then some of the people who start up threads with no knowledge what so ever on how the NBA works.

All I ever see week after week on this board is useless topics that never get lock because I guess people like to talk about irrelevant stuff that doesn't involve basketball or the Lakers what so ever.

I know a lot of ex college players in this town who have agents or know a few of them and that's how I get the info I get but I've never come to the board with it or try to name drop or be a so called "insider" like some here claim to be.

Like I said then look at what the West is doing off that one trade.

Erik Eleven has a point, Defense is what win games and the spurs has done it in the past consistently and we have not really seen it yet because of their injuries. I do think that are Defense is good now and I hope for our players to all come back healthy before the playoffs. But once that happens we have a great team, that with the next couple months have time to gel and allow Kobe to stop the best on the other team, Ariza blocking the passing lanes, Bynum swatting anything that gets by, Gasol boxing out for boards, LO doing the same against those smaller than him, Ronny coming in with Energy and playing good hustle ball and backing up guys, then DJ our enforcer oiur bodyguard-laying everyone on the floor with his six fouls to prevent any easy baskets. I like the sound of that. half of our team are good defenders with Kobe as the exception. But when put together as a team where everyone can help each other and still put a hand on the ball, we can be just as good as the spurs.

Defense will come into play when Bynum gets back and they make a final run in the weeks leading up to the playoffs.

Bynum anchors the middle. Kobe on their best back court scoring threat or could cover the SF position. Fisher, playoff vet. Odom and Gasol clean the boards. Turiaf blocks and alters shots. Sasha is a pesky defender. Ariza can be brought in when he comes back.

It looks a heck of alot brighter than the previous 2 years. I know defense wins championships, and they look pretty good IMO

i was hoping to wake up and find george willing to go to the nets.

i think some people are overvaluing kidd. this is the first year of his decline and usually nba players decline quickly. the guy is shooting 36% from the field.........his lowest ever. his ppg has dropped to 11.3. his to have gone up almost one a game over last season. the lakers would kill the mavs even with kidd and then the mavs have dramatically shortened their contention window. losing diop in the deal makes things much easier for a frontline of bynum, gasol and odom to own the paint.

Spurs did not have Tony Parker... the guy they usually rely on to break the oppositions defense by penetrating.

Anyways... I agree. Its why I think people have gotten ahead of themselves after the Gasol trade. We may be talented on paper, but its mostly offensive talent. Gasol and Odom are okay defenders, and Bynum is still learning to be an anchor. Kobe is a good defender, but there is no point in a perimeter defender being good if the team isn't on the same page. Defense is why we probably won't win the championship this year. Next year, we probably need to make some minor tweaks with who gets minutes and such, and stress defense (and Bynum becomes a serious defensive anchor).

Do you want an award? I didnt say ..dont try to play fortune teller. Your "claim" was pretty obvious to most. The ripple effect that the Lakers deal for Gasol would send panic amongst the league and that sentiment was shared by many, not just you.

I said, you are not a fortune teller with that statement.

Who said I was the only one who thought of that ?

I'm quite sure the whole damn board knew what was going to happen in the coming days ahead.

And by the way the first five words of your post is uncalled for.Thats pretty second grade stuff.

Devean George should definitely be awarded the Defensive Player Of The Year Award.
