It was a bad loss, but the Suns really lost their composure out there. Nash made some crazy turnovers, stuff I've never seen before.
It's obvious the Suns haven't worked out their offense. It looks ugly out there, and they have trouble just getting a decent shot. Against good defensive teams, they're going to struggle, and the Pistons are a great defensive team.
Now that they're not running and gunning, they look lost, and Nash looks as vulnerable as he did as a Maverick.
I'm a little surprised at how the Suns look like they're trying to play with Shaq on the fly. Did they really think they can just run up and down like usual? Or did they think that Shaq will dominate the halfcourt?

i think that's why everyone was like 'wtf' when the trade went down. shaq doesn't fit what the suns did best and now it's going to take some time to figure out what works..........if they do. the suns offense looks completely disjointed. still time but i'm hoping the suns shot themselves in the foot with the deal

they played half court with a few fast breaks and that is not the Suns game.
they may have scored that many simply because they were charged up with adrenaline because it was Shaqs first game.
once they settle down and start to play on the road we will see a better picture of what they will be like in the playoffs, but todays game didn't help their cause.

Most of the supporters of the trade theorized that Shaq would rebound, outlet and the Suns would just run without him. After all, they argued, you don't need the entire team to run the break.
OK, I guess that's plausible, even though Shaq's never been a particularly skilled outlet passer.
But the even bigger issue was the fact that they traded one of their best finishers/slashers in the process. Outside of Marion, who else do the Suns have that's going to get out and run with Nash besides Stoudemire and Barbosa? The cupboard suddenly looks pretty bare in that department, not to mention the fact that they also lost a capable 3-point shooter as well.
I'm going to need a lot more than three games to make any definitive decisions. But I gave this trade about a 2-1 chance of failing, and I haven't yet seen anything in this brief window to convince me otherwise.

While I hate the Suns, I think it's important to avoid pinning their innefectiveness on offense entirely on the Shaq trade...
You can't take ANYTHING away from the D the Pistons are capable of playing. On any given night they seem capable of playing D at a level or 2 higher than just about any team in the league. Make no mistake, we won't be scoring 130pts on them any time soon.
They also have the abillity to pour on points with the best of them too.
Their only weekness is that they are getting a little used to being on top of the east and sometimes don't seem to bring the intensity every night. But when it's there, they're a very, very hard team to beat.
In fact, if we don't learn how to play some defense before the playoffs, I don't think we have a very good chance against any of the Easts top seeds right now.
