No, in fact I think part of the reason he is able to recover so quick from ankle issues is the strength and flexibility gained from low tops. I had mad ankle issues for a long time, switched to lows, never had a problem since and have recovered from the few sprains I've had very fast.
I see it way too often these guys will wear those lace up braces, then lace up their high tops super tight on top of that, and STILL hurt their ankles because they never get stronger and learn to be weak. And it puts all this unnatural straing on the knees and hips as well. Look at Josh Howard for an example, I would bet if he switched to lows two years ago, he wouldn't have the ankle issues he has now.
I'm a big proponent of lows.
