If Kobe were wearing high-tops instead...

Post#1 » by slickgreek » Wed Feb 10, 2010 7:24 am

Would he still have as much discomfort in his ankle? Don't get me wrong, I am all for his new shoe, but it just crossed my mind that if he had better ankle support would this even be an issue?

No, in fact I think part of the reason he is able to recover so quick from ankle issues is the strength and flexibility gained from low tops. I had mad ankle issues for a long time, switched to lows, never had a problem since and have recovered from the few sprains I've had very fast.

I see it way too often these guys will wear those lace up braces, then lace up their high tops super tight on top of that, and STILL hurt their ankles because they never get stronger and learn to be weak. And it puts all this unnatural straing on the knees and hips as well. Look at Josh Howard for an example, I would bet if he switched to lows two years ago, he wouldn't have the ankle issues he has now.

I'm a big proponent of lows.

I hate high-tops, just can't play basketball wearing such high shoes.

Well Kobe switched to low tops then had his longest consecutive games played streak of his career so it kind of feels weird to ask this q

OT to be sure but if I were to be wearing an elbow brace while lifting the push muscles chest, shoulder, and triceps (tendonitis) would that weaken the ligament possibly causing further injury in the future regardless of my everyday usage and rough usage of the arm during heavy pull exercises?

Thanks

yeah he would have this much discomfort cause the way he got tangled under Lamar's foot a few days later still would've effed his ankle up.

basically, the less you support your ligaments the tougher their collagen-structure will be. the way the collagen is arranged in your tendons is influenced by the way the tendons are being weakened, thus, used the most. in fact, when you rupture a ligament it is actually bad to wear casts for too long as the collagen doesn't experience the physical strain needed to shape appropriately and as a consequence remains labile.

i don't know about what injury kobe had and I honestly also feel scared in low tops, however, in theory low top sneakers would benefit the strength of your ligaments. that doesn't mean they also protect you better, though.

This has got to be the most talked about issue in all of professional and non-pro sports! Hightops versus Lowtops. But there has to be someting to this. Soccer players, these guys are hardly ever sidelined for ankle issues. Steve Nash has worn quarter tops for sometime, if I am wrong I am sure some will correct me. Nash has been bothered by lots of things but an ankle issue isnt one of them.

When I was in the Army soldiers had more ankle injuries in lace up combat boots than in running shoes it seemed. I dunno i think there has to be some science behind this.

Kobe wanted Nike to create a shoe with the idea of soccer players cutting all over the field at high speeds they are all wearing low tops why can't nba players...

I think one thing Kobe may have missed is going amongst the trees and falling on ones foot, usually doesn't happen in soccer.
