You're ignoring the advantage Pau has brought at backup C. Right now the Lakers are doing their best to move pieces around to keep the team competitive while saving money long-term. The Felton-Blake deal makes the most sense because of the savings next year. As the Lakers continue to cut through amnestying Metta and allowing Luke to expire, it'll be first rounders that will be kept in order that the team have a future when Bynum is the only player on the cap in 2014.

Not sure what the Bucks are looking for in exchange, but I absolutely agree.

I spent a decent amount of time the other day playing with the Trade Machine, figuring out a Gasol trade that would net Jennings and Illyasova

Illyasova is a player that we should get if it only cost 1 pick. He is playing great ball after Bogut is down. I think our SF need is not as urgent as before after Artest's resurgence after the all star game. On the other hand, I think we really need to get someone to backup Bynum and Gasol. I know this guy is not Murphy. Whenever Murphy is on the court, it is terrible to watch. Getting a young PF like Illyasova who can shoot should help our rotation a lot. Moreover, it gives us flexibility to trade Gasol if the right deal come across. Of course our top priority will always be PG.

No....just no, we don't need another stretch 4 that doesn't play D or rebound worth a damn.

Here's the combined trade.

Portland sends out: Felton
LAL send out: TPE, Dallas 1st, Laker 1st, Kapono, Morris, Blake
Minnesota sends out: Beasley

Portland: gets Blake+1st+Morris
LAL: Felton, Beasley
Minnesota: Kapono, 1st

It works around the TPE formula. You're not combining TPEs with players. You are trading TPEs for players, with another player going in the deal. ESPN Trade checker has allowed it for years and they're pretty accurate.

How so? You can't combine TPE with players.

Why is Portland giving up a 1st?

Ilyasova is a damned good rebounder. He went for 16 and 7 last night against Dwight. Go check his recent performances.

He's not a great defender but he's no worse than Pau is.

Ilyasova so much better than that head case from Minnesota - Beasely.

I can live with Felton if the FO is aboslutely determined to hold onto to aging Pau Gasol, dumb though that may be.

I'd much rather see us trade Gasol for Kyle Lowry and I'm not convinced that still isn't in the works.

Felton looks like he's about 50 lbs overweight.

I guess he was counting on the lockout to last an entire year.

D Fish is in better shape than this guy. I'm not even sure Felton can beat fisher out considering the shape Felton is in. But go ahead and give the Blazers a first round pick for butter ball Felton.

Jajwanda that deal looks a little jaded for my taste. We give up both picks ?

This is basically the reason we turned down Minny the first time. Mitch seems locked in on keeping one of those picks. Don't get me wrong I love the fact we can land Beas, but Felton is reported to be overweight.

the idea of breaking down a multi player deal into smaller deal to allows for a TPE to be used is not new, but i am not sure how you did that. can u de-combine your trade idea to see all the moving pieces?

I'm not sure if he's overweight anymore. The cash in and out over the next three years is slightly ahead for L.A.

Their target was these two guys at the end of February. If Felton plays like last year's Felton, that group would beat Miami in a seven game series.

Blake's chemistry with the second unit is really the difference maker in their improved performance lately. The only way I'd agree to pick up Felton would be if we could keep Steve and move Fish to backup SG. I just can't see our team being that much better with a Felton for Blake swap.

I have a feeling once it becomes more apparent that Dwight isn't being traded(or he gets moved somewhere other than here) we're going to make a move for Sessions over Felton since both would involve a first rounder.

One thing that makes these trades perhaps more attractive is watching how the team improves dramatically when one player returns (Steve Blake). When Metta World Peace starts playing like his old life the starters improve enough so that they can beat Miami.

These minor differences make a dramatic difference. The Lakers are tied for the third in the West without having a second dribble penetration threat. Think about that for a second. They have the 30th best bench in the league (worst). So easy to improve.

He's the worst defensive point guard in the NBA. We'll be trying to defend against point guards like Westbrook or maybe Derrick Rose and with Sessions out there we may as well be playing with four guys on defense.

He's actually not that bad :D
