If we can, it will be totally worth the 3 years, by all accounts he is smart, talented, has a keen eye for the game and very humble. You need to retain those guys in key roles by all means.

I'm all for it but I have a hard time seeing it and think he would end up in Phoenix if he wanted that type of job.

He showed no explosive in his step when healthy, Nash needs to realize that his body is just worn out and basketball is just not in him any more. He is a smart player, but that extra 9 million is messing up his senses. Why go out and look your age and make a fool out of your hall of fame career. Do not look like that player just trying to hold onto something that is not there any more.

One last full healthy season of Nash would be amazing.

Huh?? Last I recalled he was in court trying to block their move to LA and he won. He claimed LA wasn't a good place to raise kids.

But I just checked and found out his ex wife did move anyways. Didn't know that. But I guess will have to wait and see what happens after his contract ends.

of course she did, do you have any idea how crazy the child support laws are in California? its **** absurd. not sure if they will apply now but im sure thats the reason she came.

@itches will go to extreme to ruin a mans life!!

In this case even though the court blocked the move, she still moved so I guess its not because of the money (Court has already set the spousal support). Its probably because she is trying to either make his life miserable or trying to get back with him.

You're talking about a basically enshrined HOFer. Yeah, a good pick plus him playing out his career on his own terms would pretty much be icing,

you shouldnt bother, nobody on this boards respects nash or understands how good he is. imagine kobe played for a different team his entire career and then came to the lakers last year. i wonder if people would be saying the same thing...

None of us would turn down 9 million dollars. I'd run out there on a broken leg for 9 mil and look terrible. None of this is going to sully the memory of Nash. Everyone looked terrible in the end. Shaq, Charles Barkeley, Tracy McGrady, Allen Iverson, I mean I'm sure I could compile a better list than that but I'm just randomly throwing names out there. Once his career ends, a year or two will go by, and the first thing we'll think of when hearing the name Steve Nash is him being one of the greatest ever in that Suns uniform. It's his career, his final career, doing something that he loves to do, which is why I understand and don't blame him for pushing it for as long as possible. Many of us are fans of basketball because we vicariously live through them. We wish that we could be NBA superstars. And if we had the opportunity, we wouldn't want to give it up either.
He will rise again...

I want him to be a long term point guard coach for us, we all saw how he helped Blakes game before that dude extended his elbow in 24 different locations.

But whatever happens, i hope us and Nash leave on good terms, the dudes a legend and he absolutely deserves it.

hell yea if he was 38, wasted a boat load of cap, injury plagued and cost us 3 picks all so his ego can "go out the way he wants" at the expense of the team. Tell me guys, what has this "enshrined" HOF'er gotten us so far? I'd challenge the notion of IS, more like WAS is more appropriate word to describe this Laker version of Nash.

I understand Nash "wants the money" but how about earning it bro...

If Nash can't play the only way he can help us is by coaching. How about opting out of final year and seeing how things work out with Nash as the Lakers' head coach? It has already been mentioned itt, either by Slava or Kilroy I don't remember, but that's the only way I see him helping our team going forward. And hell to the no with the coaching thing if he's going to be nothing more than a MDA clone.
Sometimes being wrong is awesome!!! :D

Wiretap wrote:The Los Angeles Lakers plan to keep Steve Nash next season and prefer to eat his contract ($9.7 million) in one swoop rather than waiving him and stretching the money over three years.

By finishing Nash's contract, the Lakers expect to have more money to spend in 2015 and 2016, when they figure to be more active on the free agent market.

Nash has missed all but 12 games this season due to nerve injuries.

The Lakers also plan to keep Kendall Marshall, who has a non-guaranteed deal for next season.

Thoughts?

TBH, even if he doesn't play next season, I like Nash's contract on the books so they don't overspend this summer. It gives them the perfect buffer for when Kobe/fans are disappointed in the product on the floor next season.

Having said that, I hope he gets his body right and can have one last playoff push with the old dogs.

Im totally cool with Nash being a Laker for another season, honestly the dude has been nothing but professional and hard working. Yea hes old and has had bad luck with injuries, but the front office knew that was a risk when they traded for him so now they will let his contract play out.

The last thing this front office wants to do it tarnish an already shaky image in the media by looking cheap
