Re: Lebron: Shooting an Elephant
what did Lebron compromise anyway? Lonzo is a good defender and pg but he's a bad shooter.Ingram is an average scorer/defender.Which was the ongoing "process" before LBJ got there? Being out of the playoffs every year? Getting another all-star?they can still do it.And it will be a lot easier if they are already a playoff team instead of being an irrelevant one
He's averaging 29-8-7 58%efg.How many 34 years old NBA playershave done that in the past? Is the point that he's being overpaid?Wall,Hayward,Horford, Wiggings, Porter, Conley (you can argue Westbrook) are overpaid, lebron is getting what he brings.
And what's the great 'danger' there? That he'll decline and provide let's say 25-5-5 on 50% efg? That's prime Kobe

Re: Lebron: Shooting an Elephant
It doesn't matter, if expectations are winning championships.
Lebron will have great stretches this year, but he is no longer the arguably best player in the league, definitely not a top two-way player, and he certainly won't be better next season at 35 years old and counting.
The downside of continuing to build around him is the undeniable increased risk of decline and injury, a massive albatross of a contract, and possibly gutting this young roster to cater to his desire to win right now within his shrinking window.
None of that prioritizes the Lakers' interests in the present and future.

Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Giannis are indisputably top 5. I have Lebron among Embiid, Jokic, Harden, Westbrook, Lillard, Kyrie...but I’d also take any of them ahead of Lebron over the next four years

Magic complained about LeBrons usage a week or two ago. LeBron just tweeted this. Passive aggressive?

Ha, I actually thought he was talking about one of his own companies. Didn’t think he was referring to skipping a lakers holiday party, didn’t even realize they had one.

I thought he was talking about one of his companies as well. I was more talking about where he says he's washed. I assume that would be from basketball activities.

I'm with OP on the longterm prospects of hitching your future to a declining Lebron, but it's kind of laughable to suggest that he isn't the top dog anymore.
Even if you accept the premise that he slipped neither of the players he mentioned would have stepped into the Lakers situation and elevated them to playing .600 ball.

He wasn't good when he was drafted.... got better and even good..... then has slipped the last couple years and is not in Ingram territory. A foul against him is a 1 point proposition at the moment.

Re: Lebron: Shooting an Elephant
i don't post much here...i'm basically a lurker.
but i had to chime in and say this is a ridiculous thread. slamming lebron and his contract before we even see if he has a negative effect on the team is very premature.
if and when he really becomes the "elephant in the room", then the conversation should be had. but having it while he is the main reason that the team is winning and resurgent is crazy.

Re: Lebron: Shooting an Elephant
This thread is becoming a parody of itself. Can we shoot it before it derails the lakers board?
LeBron is still great and he's locked in for a few years. Lakers can control this asset and have obviously planned to reduslce his load and keep him fresh. Ideally they'd want to ask him chill for the RS and come firing in the playoffs alone (like Michael Buble come Christmas time).
Kobe has given similar sentiments. LeBron should do less now to force his teammates to do more and then save himself to add to the team during the playoffs. I can see this happening in the very least and being very successful.

Re: Lebron: Shooting an Elephant
How exactly is this a parody? Many in the media acknowledge that he’s no longer a top 3 player and talk about his age (and lack of defense) as a point of focus, which it will be until he retires. Also it’s not a coincidence that since this summer, former teammates and a surprising number of players have been volunteering that playing with Lebron...well, sucks. We already know Kawhi and Kevin Durant aren’t coming to play with Lebron.
What are we trying to build here? Well, Lebron wants Melo. Of course. Of course.

Lebrons conditioning is nothing this NBA has ever seen, the time and money he puts into his body along with his High IQ on when to take possessions off he will be fine. Also the NBA was far more physical back then you couldn't get into the paint without being checked.

Re: Lebron: Shooting an Elephant
Lebron tops no MVP list, he's #5 on hoopshype and and he's not even listed on the Sporting News. Even during the ESPN broadcast of the Lakers-Spurs game, Chauncey Billups and Paul Pierce didn't include Lebron in their respective lists of top players. All this would be unthinkable in previous seasons.
