Unless the guard is a virtual lock coming out of college and there are no franchise big men already on the roster, you always draft big. I love what Russell might become, but Okafor is the choice.

I'm not brushing Okafor's defensively liabilities under the rug, I know he needs work. I saw a lot of his games and I know that his defense can improve with first conditioning and learning NBA style techniques.

Personally, I feel like it would benefit both teams if Minnesota drafted Okafor and let KG groom him defensively while LA ended up with Karl Towns, who will develop on his own regardless of if LA signs DeAndre Jordan or not.

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
In a perfect world yes that would seem logical, but pretty sure Flip and Glen Taylor are gonna feel pressured to take what their industry experts say they shout take. By that account Towns is what scouts say is the safest bet. And in my opinion I think Towns fits better in terms of not dominating the ball from Wiggins. It's clear or it should be that the T-Wolves will be "Wiggins team". The building of that team will focus around his skills.RJM wrote:DEEP3CL wrote:I'm not brushing Okafor's defensively liabilities under the rug, I know he needs work. Great vid...feet doesn't seem slow to me. Also he has lost like 20 lbs or so, looks good and can only help his conditioning.ArC_man wrote:Looks much leaner now:

Analyst are saying Towns has the higher upside, Okafor is the safer bet. Personally I think Minn should take Okafor, they've been pretty bad at developing talent, that's why majority of their picks in the last 10 yrs aren't relevant or even on their team anymore. Only pick prior to this past season that were relevant was Rubio and Love and Rubio is still avg to me besides his passing he doesn't bring much to the table.

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
so the Wolves board is polling whether they should take Towns or Okafor, you guys are polling Okafor or Russell, the Sixer board is polling Russell or Mudiay, and the Knicks Board is kind of all over the place, including a heated discussion about Stephen A calling for heads to roll because the team didn't manage to lose 2 more games. wonder what Jeannie and Phil are saying about it.

i have some kind of superstition that with the lasts 7-8 drafts after durant, the no.2 pick has been an utter failure. hopefully it wont be the case with okafor

losing more games does not equate to winning the lottery
who's to say those combinations would've been NY's instead of minnesota's, or to say the ping pong balls would've bounced the same way in alternate universe land?

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
According to Chad Ford if Towns goes first the Lakers will focus almost exclusively on Okafor. If Okafor goes first, they'll consider Russell and Mudiay just as much as Towns.

exactly. they're just sore 'cause they probably won't get a big, even though the 4 pick doesn't look bad at all this year.

Which is funny because I remember this board salivating over Rubio a while ago.

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
Unless there is an injury issue I can't believe the Wolves would pass on Towns. Towns and Okafor looked comparably impactful by the time the tournament rolled around, despite college play maximising Okafor's skill set, and the NBA hurting it a lot (while maximising Towns skill set). The safe pick and the smart pick at #1 are the same pick; Towns.

Re: #2 pick: Okafor or Russell
I would look hard at Mudiay. He is a lot more athletic than Russell and of course Towns and Okafor.
Bring them all four at the sametime and put Towns and Mudiay vs Okafor and Russell
Then, Bring in 6 more Defenders and go 5 on 5 and see what happens.
Then bring in more another day.
Towns, Russell, WCS, Stanley Johnson with Randle vs Okafor, Winslow, Mudiay, Porzingis or Kaminsky, with Julius Randle Switching back and forth with another PF or use a Defender PF or Jordan Hill.
Then mix them up with Towns, Winslow, Kaminsky, Randle, Mudiay vs Okafor, SJ, Clarkson, Hill, WCS
This too me would be more interesting than any silly workouts.
I doubt it would be allowed but it would give the Lakers a preview and also a good chance to see who is
who in the pecking order of the best prospects.

Okafor Okafor Okafor Okafor Okafor Okafor Okafor Okafor.
Okafor and Randle, man.. it's so easy to build around them, just slide 1 creator (hopefully Clarkson could do that) and 2 perimeter defender and shooter.. it's fantastic.
as for Mudiay, i think he could as good as Wall, but for cheaper PG alternative, i'll take a look moving up to get Tyus Jones (this guy seriously underrated, he's probably the best basketball mind in NCAA right now) or Delon Wright, and get Okafor
