I hope Lebron sits out with "back problems" and demands a trade when he's two points away from breaking Kareems scoring record.

Me too... The best thing for the Lakers.

Ownership is between a rock and a hard place, and it makes you wonder if that's not exactly where LeBron wants them...

Can't hate them that much because they can't do a whole lot without LeBron's approval... But what's on the court right now is complete crap, and they're not doing a great job controlling the narrative... They're still living in a world where star players show their appreciation for 'loyalty'... They haven't realized yet that the more they try to keep LeBron happy, the deeper the whole they dig for themselves with their fans and their future. LeBron isn't Kobe... He doesn't give a **** about the Lakers or their fans. Just like he doesn't about Cleveland, or Miami...

So **** him now, or get **** by him later... that's the choice... Only question is timing.

Spot on... A lot of people especially Bron fans don't want to believe this, Bron wanted AD - Lakers got AD... Lakers had a chance to get Derozen etc - but they wanted to go with Westbrook for playmaking etc - take the load off Bron - but 1st crap season was full of covid/injuries etc - now It's semi I quote "SEMI" working with Russ playing off the bench, he still not happy and complaining

As most of you know I never wanted him and can't wait for retirement or off the team - hoping he demands a trade this season OR sits out rest of season and so does AD - I doubt either will happen, just hoping :)

OMG, so Ownership is now the victim because they made the deal with the ultimate Devil himself Satan who completely controls every decisions for the team. :banghead:

Yes, they try to make Lebron happy...but as long as those decisions DO NOT SEVERELY CUT THEIR PROFITS.
Lebron WANTED Ty Lue to be the Head coach, a freaking WINNING FORMULA that worked in Cleveland, but they decided to make a lame duck offer limiting years of service and NOT having any options to pick his assistants, forcing Lue to decline.
So fine, Vogel with 2 great assistants worked... then what? they let Kidd walk and Hollins retire, replaced them Fizdale and simply promoted an untested inexperienced Mike Penberthy for the purpose of... SAVING MONEY!!!!!
They let Caruso walk, you think Lebron is so stupid enough that he ordered Rob to let the one guy who had a +16 pts with James on the court walk for nothing?
Laker got rid of Judy Seto and didn't replaced her.. because....? to save $$$$$ You really think Lebron have anything to do with that?
They shired a rookie coach and didn't bother to acquire assistants who have head coaching experience...Could it be because guys like Terry Stotts and Snyder are way out of their BUDGET?
They just simply waived their BEST SHOOTER who happens to be 6-9. Usually if you waive someone, you replace him with someone better... but where is the replacement?, hmmm may be another cost cutting move?
Am I being very presumptive about these owners? Perhaps.. but Aren't you also being presumptive about Lebron not caring about this team and the fans? Can't we accept it that he wants to win games too? I spent hard earned money to watch this team play in February and not a few of you are advocating to simply stay pUt and not doing anything to improve this team's roster because.... so you can piss Lebron off and punish him?

Compare this to when arguably the best player in the game yelled "Pay Me" to the owner.... shipped his azz out.

The family got in bet with Bron and they are making tons of money with him. My guess is that they are more about the money than the wins these days. If it were the other way around Bron would be out of here. When he finally decided to disconnect from the teet we will be bone dry of assets trying to give him what he wants.

How's attendance this year?

Or local TV ratings?

With the slow start the Lakers got off to, maybe enough fans are voting with their wallets.

Is Nicholson still going to games?

During a November trip to Belgium, I had read an article in an European journal which had speculated how both LeBron and Drake, primarily through Main Street Advisors, along with Tom Werner and John Henry, LeBrons’ partners in Fenway Sports Group, are preparing to make an offer to purchase the Lakers. Main Street Advisors, with both LeBron and Drake as participants, recently purchased a stake in AC Milan, an Italian soccer team, and Fenway Sports Group, with LeBron and Maverick Carter as a participants since 2011, had purchased Liverpool FC of the Premier League.

Open secret is the Las Vegas expansion franchise is being "reserved" for Lebron's group (which I bet Drake would be part of in a token capacity/ maybe he starts a residency in Vegas or something). They will still have to pay the full expansion fee (no discounts or anything) but they want Lebron to be an owner going forward.

I’m going to guess that Jeannie wants to hang LBJ’s jersey on the wall. That’s her planned lasting legacy, I think. Would she cling to that at the cost of losing seasons and causing a deep rebuild? I think so. I think she thinks daddy would be proud if she managed to land LBJ and retire his jersey next to Magic’s and Cap’s and Kobe’s.

Unfortunately.

Not my place to have an opinion on what anyone owns, but as a fan I’d like to see basketball decisions made by basketball people.

Like Dr Buss did it, by delegating. Not to Linda Rambis. To peeps like Jerry West.

Preach, brother!!!

The Laker brand, along with the Celtic brand, have always represented the NBA as the two standard-bearers of winning and excellence. Jeanie has turned the Laker brand into the "NY Knicks West," and that does not translate to winning.

When LeBron was originally signed by the Lakers, the roster was loaded with really good and young talent, but perhaps the team had hired the wrong coach (Luke Walton) to both develop the talent and to create-and-integrate a system-style which could best optimize LeBron's multi-faceted talent. I have nothing against Luke Walton; however, the reasoning behind why he was hired by the Lakers, epitomizes the juvenile and "stuck-in-time" mindset of the Laker franchise: Luke played for the Lakers and had a run as Steve Kerr's assistant coach; Luke was the "shinny penny" which the Buss family seems to always get drawn to. The Lakers should have kept that young roster; had hired a Tyronn Lue (and give him the latitude and budget to hire top-notch assistants), or a Nick Nurse, or even a Frank Vogel; and poached a David Griffin to run the front office.

The Buss family has become ossified, financially stuck as the "runt of the litter" when compared to other NBA owners, and no longer relevant in today's NBA. Until a new ownership person/group purchases the team and modernizes how the franchise is run, Laker fans will be stuck with watching the team struggle to sign or trade for the latest aging superstar (LeBron will not be the last one; watch Rob try to make a play for James Harden in the off-season) with the hope of recapturing "lightening in a bottle." Hope is not a good strategy for making a winning NBA franchise.

Lastly, "Daddy would not be proud" of what how his progeny has squandered and even disrespected the Buss legacy.

Yeah, but I personally think the expansion team is a fall-back plan... The original plan was to get a foot in the door of arguably the premier brand in the league and work their way into ownership... I have always thought Lebron came to the Lakers to try to force his way into ownership. And I think AD is in on it too...
The thing is there are powerful people in the background who have been negotiating places at the table in the event the Buss family sells out. So it may not work out for LeBron... In which case the expansion team comes into play.

I think she knows Jerry is all about getting rings but unfortunately Jeanie is contented to just getting one ring this year…. From her Love Jay Mohr.
She does want to win but not as badly as her old Pops especially when it’s cutting in to their profits. Jeanie would let Rob make decisions but she also want to make Lebron happy so with that tight budget she given him, Pelinka had to make compromises. No we can’t go way over cap like the Clippers and Warriors but we will hire as many Klutch clients as possible. Rich Paul then gets paid and convince Lebron his team is indeed trying win….
James now is really getting frustrated but Jeanie is very worried about getting penalized with that very expensive repeaters luxury tax.

Some fans still see lakers ownership as some victims eh?

The lakers ownership is a freaking mom n pop shop, absolutely no financial resources to invest in the team. This team simply and literally can’t afford to rebuild. They rely on team profits as their only source of income.

They’re like the dodgers when they were owned by frank mccourt. If they ever got a billionaire owner who hires elite front office personnel like Andrew Friedman, someone with a small market track record (presti?) but with a big market budget, it would be over for the rest of the league.

There was this Mighty Kingdom run by this wise King, he got old let his innocent Daughter to rule.
A Knight In shining Armor from another land came in. Soon after this Knight brought in his friend, a fellow strong tall Knight and together they conquered other Neighboring kingdoms.
Years later Somehow they wanted another knight but to get him they have to trade 3 other soldiers. 3rd knight turned out to be inferior and they lost a couple of battles injuring the second Knight badly. Now the first Knight is old a badly battered and demanding the Queen to ask to reinforcements but turned out the armory is actually empty.
Town folks are angry and confused. Now the rumors are getting much louder. The First Knight is actually an imposter, he was actually brainwashing the Queen to get full control of the kingdom, ransacking it’s wealth dry. Poor Queen didn’t know what hit her. Her Kingdom is now in ruins no thanks to the master Con artist who pillaged the village like a mad Viking.

I don't mind Jeannie but she probably is easily led astray by people around her.

Problem with family passing down a business is that the guy who built the business was the savvy one and there's no reason to believe they will have a child that is even close to being as savvy.

She probably listens to Rob, Rambii, LeBron, Magic, Phil Jackson, Jay Mohr.
I think the weird mix of this is putting together roster decisions.

I think where the smaller resources come into play is not so much the player payroll, but in the other costs associated with running a top-level organization. I'm pretty sure the Lakers would take on more salary in a trade for a great player because the benefit is tangible, but what about bringing in for example a top POBO to really run the ship? It's harder to justify those outlays because it doesn't directly contribute to on-court success or ticket sales, it is more a long-term ROI.

It's a shame the Laker org went through the ownership struggle with Jim and Jeannie, because I think in the fallout Jeannie had to reach out to those closest to her to help her figure things out. That's very human and understandable to me, but when you go too far with that you end up with the Rambii, a questionable GM choice, the weird fallout with Magic, etc. Out of all that the Lakers still won a championship, I think that's a reflection that there is both good and bad with the Buss family (and just about any ownership.) But the current state of the team also is a reflection of the current FO.

I think there are definitely scenarios in which the Buss family stays and the team enjoys consistent on court success, but that's not the timeline we're living in.

Finally, I'm really curious if say 3 years from now someone will be able to write a good book detailing the behind the scenes of everything starting from say the family battle for control of the team.

No they're not between a rock and a hard place. They're just incompetent which they've been for more than a decade. There are so many bad moves along the way that its tough to give them a break of any kind.

They have Lebron and AD, who both are top 10 players when they're healthy, yet they refuse to put a team around them to succeed because they're so **** obsessed with getting what they believe is a star. And their definition of star is whoever was an all-star 4 years ago, rather than who is productive today. The result is that they run AD and Bron into the ground.

I'll counter that with, both AD and LeBron went to the FO and demanded they get Westbrook...

AD and LeBron do nothing without Klutch... So assume Klutch was in the room too...
That's a pretty damned-big rock if you ask me...
The hard-place being the alternative, which would be to try to trade LeBron and ditch Klutch... Or rather, to tell Klutch and LeBron to pound sand and build the team you think is best around them...
Which would almost certainly result in LeBron trade demands...

Either they're incompetent BECAUSE they got LeBron or they're not... You can't really blame them for the team they have now, when everyone admits AD and LeBron wanted Westbrook... That's pretty much a fatal move right there that everyone called a mile away...

LeBron and Davis have asked for many players. Lakers FO chose Westbrook route because it would cost them the least assets while letting them overpay THT.

LeBron wanted DeMar, LaVine, Caruso, Beal, Wall+Wood

Lebron didn’t just asked them to acquire players but he also really wanted them to hire the proven Ty Lue to be the coach. But they made such an offer that only a desperate guy would accept, a short contract with no say on who will assist him, forcing him to decline.
This silly narrative that Jeanie and Rob are bowing and practically obliging to everything that Lebron is ordering is simply false. Yes, they do try to accommodate them but if it will severely affect their finances then they would clearly decline.
