Or...

If Boston drafts Ball #1 and #2 on the Lakers' board is Jackson, then it would make sense for Fultz to put in a workout with Sac because we'd be trading back to draft him.

I don't see Boston taking Ball, but I feel like in that situation Fultz would be number 2 on our board no?

And going by fit, he'd be a worse get than Ball and used as trade bait to unload a contract instead.

I agree. I'm just saying, I doubt we have Jackson ahead of Fultz in our board....in that scenario I think we would either take Fultz by ourself or trade him for a superstar, rather than trading down to get Jackson.

It's truly a win-win situation for the Lakers.

A) Celtics draft Fultz, we draft Ball. - WIN
B) Celtics draft Ball, we trade Fultz and Deng for 5 and 10. - WIN

Why you want trade best prospect in this (and not only in this) draft?
I would trade Ball for this package without hesitation, but not Fultz.
If Ainge will be crazy and miss Fultz, we should take him, run and celebrate.

He's not.
I wouldn't.
Or trade him to someone that does like him, like Boston is thinking.

which brings up a good big board question... who you got at 5 and 10?

5. Tatum/Fox basically has to be there
10. Markkonen, DSJ, ?

Josh Jackson role

Post#867 » by dub81 » Fri Jun 9, 2017 11:29 pm

If Josh Jackson comes to the Lakers it would be some type of logjam.

With BI handling the 3 spot and Julius at the four with Nance and Deng in the bench

How would they rotate players?

Nah, if someone wants to move up to 2, the asking price needs to be Mozgov

I'm sure you mean in addition to getting 5 and 10.

I would only consider that if BOS takes Ball for themselves or drafts him for someone else with whom they have a trade lined up for a superstar

I was going to reply that there's no way lakers trade their pick like this, but it makes sense honestly if the kings are conveying to Fultz camp that they want a workout cause they might be trading up.

For the Celtics, they can just pick whoever they want, it's not complicated. For the lakers though, if they really want ball, it make sense that they have contingencies in the event he's not there. Explains why they're making it seem like LA's workout was unimpressive, specially since Boston isn't going to get their own look.

If Ball is gone though and lakers are not in love with Fultz, may be there's a framework being discussed with sac to make that trade which is why sac is reaching out to Fultz. I mean, sac has to feel like they have a shot at a top 2 pick if they are trying to get a Fultz workout.

I'm all for trading down to the 5/10 if Ball is gone AND we don't want Fultz. I'll probably just take Fultz, but if for some reason we don't want him, you can easily settle for the 5/10 for deng/2 (something I could see the Kings doing).

All video analysis, stats, interviews point to Ball being a great teammate and a potential all-star particularly as an unselfish, fast pace transition, visionary guard that can shoot from half court line. That said, it also shows the lack of defense, physical issues and the biggest concern of a lack of mid-range game especially with that awkward form. Most of it is correctable to acceptable level especially the defense and physical issue but the mid-range game is a must for an NBA star. How will he adjust the form to get better at the mid-range game?

The ultimate question is whether Ball is worth the #2 pick as someone who will transform the Lakers into an elite team. Every player has question marks and weaknesses. The biggest asset will be the mentality of the player to improve. Will he have that determination to become the best? Not an easy decision for the Lakers but Fox should not be in the mix here. I would prefer the Lakers pick between Ball and Jackson.

If the Lakers are unsure on Ball/Jackson, I think they have to consider the possibility and option of a trade down. If Ball is not ideal, then there are many great/good options including DSJ, Jawun Evans, Sumner, Frank Mason and Kobi Simmons at point guard this draft. The Lakers, obviously, still have the option of keeping Dlo at point guard. DSJ would be a top 7 pick and the rest could be had in the 2nd round.

3. Josh Hart
4. Monte Morris
5. Roger Moute a Bidias, Cal
6. Tyler Roberson, Syracuse

Evans, Hart and Morris are possible #28 picks but moste likely a second rounder. Hart was projected to go as high as top 20 but has been falling hard in the last 2 months. Morris is looking like a late second rounder or possibly a summer league player. Evans on the other hand has been moving up a few charts. He is now projected in the late 1st round.

Of course, we also have the most important workout this summer on June 7th when Big Baller cames into camp. This could seal the deal with the Lakers or open up the chance for Jackson/Tatum to become a Laker.

Lakers Draft Workout - June 9, 2017:

1. Damyean Dotson | SG | Houston | 6’5 | 210 | Sr.
2. P.J. Dozier | SG | South Carolina | 6’6 | 205 | So.
3. Jonathan Motley | PF/C | Baylor | 6’10 | 230 | Jr.
4. Semi Ojeleye | SF/PF | SMU | 6’8 | 230 | Jr.
5. L.J. Rose | PG | BYU | 6’3 | 200 | Sr.
6. Sindarius Thornwell | SG | South Carolina | 6’5 | 211 | Sr.

Other than seniors Dotson and Rose, all the rest are players projected to be a last first or more likely a second rounder. I think Ojeleye is a serious #28 draft pick prospect.

Lakers Draft Workout - June 11, 2017:

1. Wesley Alves da Silva | SF | Brazil | 6’7 | 189
2. Milton Doyle | SG | Loyola-Chicago | 6’4 | 185 | Sr.
3. Jeremy Hollowell | SF | Georgia State | 6’8 | 216 | Sr.
4. Tyler Lydon | SF/PF | Syracuse | 6’9 | 223 | So.
5. Matt Thomas | SG | Iowa State | 6’4 | 294 | Sr.

Plus...

6. Dennis Smith Jr. | PG | NC State | 6’3 | 195 | Fr.

All eyes will be on Dennis Smith Jr. I want to see how Dennis Smith performs. If the Lakers decide to trade down, DSJ would be potentially one major reason for it as he is as athletic as anyone in this year's draft and possibly the quickest of the bunch.
