Then he goes on live TV and states, "I want to be a Laker, but I want what's fair for me." Like wtf does that even mean? You're not even giving out a specific number to the FO so they can work with you. Now you just turned down a 4yr/84 million offer which is 21 million a year. This kid thinks he's that good, but in reality he's not that good.

I knew there was a red flag when he said he didn't want to join the Lakers when he was with OKC. I'd try to sign and trade him ASAP so he doesn't distract us from the rest of our offseason.

Just want him to do his job and then tell him to go demand **** from some other team next season.

It’s not 21 mil per, its 18 and ascending with raises. His current deal he is on is a flat 15.5 every year which is what his agent negotiated.

He would short change himself greatly take the extension compared to being a free agent and saying I’m eligible for the 7-9 year vet max ... it’s not his or his agent job to play ball or be nice in a negotiation, it’s the agents job to apply pressure and his to play well, which he has as he’s been the second best player most the year with ad out so long

You still can’t sign him back because you would have to give up Kuzma, KCP, and then hope Trez opts out and still not have a lot left. And I got news for you Tucker can’t let Dennis sneakers and neither can Caruso

The big positive for the Lakers is that Schroeder has to ball out in the playoffs to get more money than $21m per year. If he is poor in the playoffs then he will be retained for much cheaper than $21m per year.

I could see the Knicks and Bulls having interest in Schroeder as both teams need a starting PG.

Knicks have capspace and that's where Lakers could lose him for nothing. Though Knicks look more likely to over pay for Lonzo instead.

Schroeder would fit Vuc and LaVine nicely but Bulls don't have capspace. They'd have to do a sign and trade. Perhaps with Markannen given how nice Pat Williams looks at PF.
Would Lakers be keen on Markannen as a fit with AD? Adds nice shooting and spacing but might not be great for D.

It's only a positive if he decides high assist numbers are as important as points... He's calling his own number a little too much right now... I don't blame him with how we've been shooting, but still... he's going to be seeing these comments coming his way regarding the extension and I worry he goes full me-first mode...
Also, he needs to start hitting more jumpers... His floater and rim attacks are getting predictable and I think will start getting more difficult as the season ages... he's only going to get bailed out with fouls so many times.

Me-first mode will be a bad reflection on him unless he does hit his shots. People covet efficiency in this league now, you can't just put up PPG and expect to get a pat on the back anymore.

I see your concern though in that Lakers have a shot to contend this season and they don't need Dennis going for a pay rise at the detriment of the team. Hopefully, Vogel just benches him if that happens. Would be great to have Bradley back as a backup in case that happens.

Don't care about this guy anymore. I'd sign and trade him ASAP in the offseason.

Well, I'm confident in my track record in our debates over Lakers recent draft picks...
Ingram over Kuz
Randle over Kuz and Nance
Hell, Randle over Smart...

And I'm even more confident in THT...

That said, there's no reason to discount the idea that a lot of the THT hype coming from the Lakers was directed at Schroder and his team as part of their extension negotiations... Certainly could have been and probably was, a part of the purpose for those comments.

Well, more than Pelicans are willing to pay given they have his RFA rights.

$92m/4 is an overpay that could release him from the pelicans IMO. I think he's worth $76m/4 and I think Schroeder is worth $72m/4.

hmm i know the NBA throws out a lot of crazy contracts to mid level players, but still... Schroeder hasn't exactly improved his value this year, so it's quite suprising that he won't accept 20 a year for 4 years.

So if the Knicks don’t bite and Dennis walks you think we might make a push for Lonzo? I am not opposed to that. Might be nostalgia but I would be good with it.

We won't have the money to pay Lonzo.

No, I think Pels take Lonzo unless Knicks offer $92m/4.
If Knicks don't get Lonzo then they likely offer similar money to Schröder and Schröder walks for nothing.
Bulls missing out on Lonzo would also direct interest to Schöder and they could offer sign n trade so that Lakers get something.

Best scenario is that Knicks pay for Lonzo and then you have the Pels or the Bulls trying to pay for Schroeder via sign-n-trade.

BI still has yet to help a team win in his career. He would not fit with AD and Bron because hes a terrible defender, and you would ask him to play SG and defend that spot or point guard. You would tell him don't handle the ball and be okay with either coming off the bench or play out of position and you would not see an all star, which he didn't earn btw with his record. He's in year 5 and cant even get his team to a tenth seed when they made the play in last year in the bubble specifically to get him and Zion in and he sucked when the games mattered

Randle took 8 seasons to help a team win, 8 years. He was next to AD and made AD have one of the worst defensive seasons ever. He is a product of Thibs, not a product of himself just like Noah and Luol Deng. He's never played this way, never played D, never took good shots until Thibs got him. Smart has been helping a team win and be relevant for years on year, and if Randle leaves Thibs he will fall off a cliff again.

You're confident THT will take how many years to contribute consistently? THT has been a 30% three point guy since high school, in college, in the g league and now. He's shooting in the teens without Bron. And the only reason he hasn't benched is because we lack bodies, not because he makes the right plays. Frank was benching him until AD, Marc, Dennis, and Bron were all out the lineup for his miscues. And its multiple miscues as was pointed out by Suns announce team that they said he gets lost as part of Montys scouting. So if he takes 7-8 years to get it like Clarkson took 7-8 years to get it and Randle takes that long to get i when it comes to winning, he ain't worth it. He's Van Exel and Eddie Jones, just like Randle/Clarkson/Ingram were and are. He's more talented than Dennis in terms of measurement and may kill him in stats one day but the play is not translating to wins. Nick and Eddie were more talented to Fish and Fox but that didn't amount to anything. Ingram and Randle are more talented than Kuzma but again its never amounted to anything or helping a team win.

One thing that needs to be taken into account that Windy didn't say is

1) He turned it down before the deadline ... Then it makes sense why he was shopped for Lowry

2) He wasn't offered that much to after Lowry wasn't traded ... Then it makes sense why he is saying oh you want to give me max money now, no, you go pay me even more than that because you need me more than I need you

In Reality -> Dennis and AD were on live playing COD lol

If Schroder indeed wants to walk, we can also arrange a sign and trade. We can, for example, trade him to the Knicks for a conditional second round pick, which creates a trade exception. Later, we can use that trade exception, plus some asset, to trade for someone else into that space. I think this theoretically works, which is why I am not super concerned about losing Schroder. As long as he doesn't literally walk for nothing, we have ways to backfill him.

There will be all kinds of posturing by both sides and I think we’re seeing that play out. Some of this is expected and tolerable.

But when it is close to and during playoff time, Dennis and his people better shut their mouths and for him to just play ball.
This is the Lakers.
We’re playing for a championship.
The rest can be taken care of once the season is over.
If after the season, they’re still far apart, he can have a sign and trade.

Me, me, me. I €û##in& can’t stand it. Winning by sacrificing for the better of the team is what builds character and confidence and ultimately, happiness. That’s something you CAN bring to the grave one day. If we repeat, he can take his well earned bloated contract and go to NYK or wherever.

My only worry is that he’ll try going solo too hard in the playoffs to prove his worth in the FA market. Somebody needs to sit him down to watch playoffs Rondo every day until the post season starts.

Good ball is quiet passing. He dribbles and bounces way too much. On defense, he needs to start playing smarter team defense, although his individual covering of PGs is very good, close to elite.
2020-2021 rotations, regular season
