BOS—MIL—UTA

Post#1 » by SkyHook » Tue Jun 24, 2025 1:54 pm

Celtics trade Porzingis + #28, receive Portis + Svi
Save $13.6MM this season.

Bucks trade Portis, receive Sexton
I have their value as a wash, but Sexton fills a more urgent position of need with Lillard out.

Jazz trade Sexton + Svi, receive Porzingis + #28
Take on additional salary for a late FRP.

Did Portis pick up his player option already?

Not that I know of. He would have to for this deal to happen, of course. Should have mentioned that.

Portis is not picking up a $13 mil option, right? Even if he doesn't get a raise, he can get additional years at least.

Not yet. CoJo and Gary Harris have been declined, and Middleton, Jevon Carter, and Pat Connaughton have exercised their options already. Thats all that’s come across the league wire so far.

I don’t see Boston including an asset for this trade.
Porzingis is clearly the best player in the deal, and yes there is some real money saved, but not worth a first.
I wouldn’t hate if it the pick wasn’t involved but definitely not including a pick here.

Best ability is availability

Porzingis: 99 GP last 2 years
Portis 131 GP last 2 years
Sexton: 141 GP last 2 years

BOS counters by saying find a team that will give up the pick to Utah for Sexton instead of them, presumably because that team would be sending out dead weight filler rather than a solid, functional player like Portis. In a year without Tatum, it's more valuable for BOS to keep #28 than it is to have Portis instead of a filler salary player.

Utah then conquers though by just cutting BOS out and getting their pick for Sexton with a smaller salary coming back.

I'm a big Portis fan so I'd do it but obviously try to keep the pick out of it if you could (or get a 2nd or two back etc.).

Portis feels like a steal at his option number though. I wonder if he decides to see what he can get on the market.

Sexton doesn’t really matter here as the Cs are trading for Portis in this scenario. Yes availability means something, but it probably closes the gap in quality of player in this case.
If KP played an equal number of games then Bucks send a first or two.
He is a much better player when he is healthy.
The Cs are not sending a pick for this.

I'm not interested in helping boston without a clear upgrade

and would also be really surprised if Bobby opts-in

If the Celtics had even a reasonable expectation that Porzingis could stay healthy, then they shouldn't trade him at all. But potential trading partners have to take that into consideration and bake it into the value.

I don’t know. It was a weird season for him. He wasn’t particularly great, and he had the PED suspension. Not a lot of cap room or a ton of mle’s for open spending. Could see him opt in and extend. :dontknow:

Not opposed to trading Portis, but Bobby is due for a pay day. It would be a S&T if they trade him.
