You think the only choices will be to resign Kuminga or to have to take Carter (who wouldn’t play) and Saric (who played very badly for the Warriors in the past)? Couldn’t they just cut Kuminga if they can’t get anyone who will help the team?
well kuminga could sign his QO, then you would still have 8M in dead money if you cut him.. Unless you mean you will rescind his QO and let him leave as FA which kings would prefer
Ya I'm confused. Instead of taking Carter and 2 2nds theyd rather give us Kuminga for free? Kings would 100% prefer that lol
Well, let’s talk about it, then.
1. Steph Curry is 37 years old. The Warriors don’t know how long he will be productive, nor do they know when / if they’ll get a player of his caliber again. The Warriors want to focus on next season, not the far future.
2. Carter had a poor rookie season. Make all the excuses you want, but he wasn’t very good. The Warriors, again, are trying to win now, so they can’t afford to spend time helping him improve. Steve Kerr rarely gives young players significant minutes anyhow. He would probably spend the season in G-league.
3. The Warriors had Saric before, and he didn’t play well in their system.
4. While Kuminga exasperates Steve Kerr, Warriors owner Joe Lacob loves him. Any offer that isn’t a massive overpay, the team would probably match it, unless they were getting back something of significant short-term value. Our GM knows who signs his paychecks.
5. Almost no one has enough cap space to make a Godfather offer for Kuminga.
6. A couple seconds contribute nothing to winning now, except perhaps as mediocre trading chips.
7. One year of Kuminga at a reasonable price is better than nothing, regardless of how well he fits the system. The Warriors would want someone who would contribute at least as much in 2025/2026, or there’s no point.
Does that help?
