You think the only choices will be to resign Kuminga or to have to take Carter (who wouldn’t play) and Saric (who played very badly for the Warriors in the past)? Couldn’t they just cut Kuminga if they can’t get anyone who will help the team?

well kuminga could sign his QO, then you would still have 8M in dead money if you cut him.. Unless you mean you will rescind his QO and let him leave as FA which kings would prefer

Ya I'm confused. Instead of taking Carter and 2 2nds theyd rather give us Kuminga for free? Kings would 100% prefer that lol

Well, let’s talk about it, then.

1. Steph Curry is 37 years old. The Warriors don’t know how long he will be productive, nor do they know when / if they’ll get a player of his caliber again. The Warriors want to focus on next season, not the far future.
2. Carter had a poor rookie season. Make all the excuses you want, but he wasn’t very good. The Warriors, again, are trying to win now, so they can’t afford to spend time helping him improve. Steve Kerr rarely gives young players significant minutes anyhow. He would probably spend the season in G-league.
3. The Warriors had Saric before, and he didn’t play well in their system.
4. While Kuminga exasperates Steve Kerr, Warriors owner Joe Lacob loves him. Any offer that isn’t a massive overpay, the team would probably match it, unless they were getting back something of significant short-term value. Our GM knows who signs his paychecks.
5. Almost no one has enough cap space to make a Godfather offer for Kuminga.
6. A couple seconds contribute nothing to winning now, except perhaps as mediocre trading chips.
7. One year of Kuminga at a reasonable price is better than nothing, regardless of how well he fits the system. The Warriors would want someone who would contribute at least as much in 2025/2026, or there’s no point.

Does that help?

But in that case, Kuminga would at least play for one more season. If they took the trade, Carter would go to G-league, and Saric would rot at the end of the bench. Steph isn’t getting any younger.

The list of guys who have agreed to play on the QO is not pretty.

Neither are Carter (right now, anyhow), or Saric.

Who says this has to be the last move the Warriors make? You can always use Carter/Saric/picks in the season for a better player that can help you. And maybe Carter becomes that player.

End of the day, I think the offer is close. The warriors want Keon/Murray/1st which is understandable, but unless Perry is a moron that never happens in a S&T.

And I really can't imagine the Warriors want to pay the tax for a guy they didn't like. But we will see.

Kuminga will be a better trade asset than Carter next season, and you know it. And the guy paying the taxes loves Kuminga.

Just admit it, you want Kuminga for free. Most of my family are Kings fans, and a couple have told me that they hope Carter gets traded.

Your family doesnt speak for the majority of kings fans.

In what scenario does kuminga retain a ton of value going back to gs?

QO - unrestricted FA, nobody is giving value for that.
3/60 - maybe he does, maybe he doesnt. Dont even want to play hypothetical on if he gets paid over 25 (could be looked at negative at that pt).

I think you are looking at this emotionally instead of logically. The value of a guy whose team doesn't want him, and is stuck paying the tax wont be great. You can say the owner likes him but we know the coach doesnt. And im pretty sure Kerr is winning that battle on the court.

Additionally I keep hearing the owner likes Kuminga, what exactly does that matter? The cosch and gm clearly dont. There's been no report of an actual extension being offered. Either the owner doesnt really like him, or hes doing as he should and staying out of day to day operations. Id imagine he really doesn't want to pay the tax for a guy like kuminga and they are using him to bluff since the world knows Kerr hates kuminga.

Its the worst kept secret they were going to look for a s&t. Warriors fans should be thankful to even get carter + 2 2nds. In another year where cap space exists you lose him for nothing but a trade exception.

Sorry to derail the thread. I know the Warriors weren’t even in the proposed trade. But if the Warriors were to take this trade, it would indicate that they’ve given up on winning for a long time. So if they feel that way, shouldn’t they trade Steph (and any other veterans and just tank? Oh, but if they do that, they should just resign Kuminga.
