I dunno about that first part. If Team X really wanted Green or Mobley instead, now they're dealing with Houston instead of you. I think leaving your plans up in the air generates more opportunities.

Though I agree that Detroit has seemed fairly locked on Cade from the jump, so taking him and calling it a (good) day looks like the likeliest outcome.

Then traded Kuz/Gasol for DeRozan, what is the max they could pay him in that scenario? Does Demar want a title that bad?

Are they really the favorite though? AD, LeBron, Buddy, and Derozan is so freaking solid. If there’s even a small possibility that Lowry goes there for a year at a discount, I would think that team rivals the Nets as the most dangerous team (although the Warriors are about to have something to say soon).

It’s possible. But they would absolutely not be able to keep THT or Caruso. They’d basically be Lebron, AD, Gasol, Hield, DDR, Deng’s stretched contract, and minimum salaries. They’d have about $33m total to split amongst DDR and the remaining 9 players, while remaining under the hard cap. Not very realistic, but it’d be possible.

The direction for Lakers is hard-capped or not hard-capped:

Hard-capped: DDR (SnT), trade #22 for multiple SRPs

Not hard-capped: Hield and Westbrook trades, keep #22

Lakers keep Caruso, THT regardless and lose Schroeder and Kuzma and Harrell regardless.

Sounds like the Lakers are offering #22 in the trade for Hield.
