With Exum out for the season and Gobert now down "indefinitely", it looks like another year of "patience" for the Jazz. We were already looking to top out as a fringe playoff team, and now who knows.
Our needs are pretty well-known: a stop-gap point guard and a stretch 4.
Our available assets USED TO include ~$7M capspace, a ~$5M expiring, and multiple first round picks. Now I'm not sure we're actually going to do anything, just play it out. We'll see what happens when Gobert returns, whenever that is.
I think you prettymuch nailed it. I would quibble a little. But, not a lot. For instance, I'm not really seeing a stretch 4 as a need as much as the average person. I think that would be more of a luxury add. And we've got Lyles to grow into that role so, not only would it be a luxury but a short term one, IMHO.
And a stop gap PG would be great, but, I wouldn't be dangling 1sts unless I was getting a stop gap that could play alongside Exum next year. So, I think I'd more be looking for someone in the 2nd rounder and cap room range. And that might not get you anyone better than what we have, so might not even do that.
Also not sure how easily I move Booker. He's not off limits by any means, but, with Gobert down it would be really difficult to upgrade the PG position while downgrading our backup big position.
I think Jazz are in a patient/vulture mode currently. If someone good comes on the market, Jazz have some assets to throw into the ring. Say a Bledsoe or Rubio gets dangled out there. But, I think the Jazz are also set to stand pat and play for next season if nothing enticing comes along. I don't see them making any panic moves this season.
