Booker goes to Disney World

Post#1 » by aguiar95 » Tue Jun 30, 2020 3:31 am

ORL in: Booker, Oubre.
ORL out: Gordon, Bamba, Fournier, 2020 ORL 1st (15), ORL 2022 1st (unprotected).

Fultz/Booker/Oubre/Isaac/Vucevic
MLE/Ross/Ennis/Okeke/Birch

PHO in: Gordon, Bamba, Fournier, 2020 ORL 1st (15), ORL 2022 1st (unprotected).
PHO out: Booker, Oubre.

Rubio/Fournier/Bridges/Gordon/Ayton
K. Lewis (15)/D. Vassell (10)/MLE/Johnson/Bamba

ORL pairs Booker with a future DPOY, and gives Booker a good team on paper to make noise in the post-season. PHO enters a mini-rebuild, gets younger while still maintaining a respectable squad and think long-term in the West (develop core while other teams try to compete with LBJ/Kawhi). I'm inclined to include Okeke to PHO, but don't know how that works.

Some will probably balk at this, but I actually really like this.

It seems there is a risk of the Suns becoming Orlando in the desert.

If Phoenix was going to trade Booker the best asset coming back shouldn't be a center to backup Ayton.

There have been many Oubre for Gordon threads. I think most had Oubres value slightly greater then Gordon.. let’s say Gordon = Oubre

You think the suns would actually consider trading Booker for?
Bamba (likely bust)
Fourniers expiring (assuming he opts in, otherwise can’t be traded)
#15 in a poor draft

This feels more like a trade package for a secondary star forcing his way out, as opposed to a trade package for a secondary star who's 'fine with his current team.

Without Isaac being included, Phoenix doesn't even speak before hanging up the phone.

This is not good. Like, really bad. Isaac is the guy to include but Magic want to pair him with Book. If Gordon and Bamba were better, maybe.

Isaac, Fournier, 2020 1st, 2022 1st is closer to what would be required.

Someone enlighten me as to why Booker is a superstar while Zach LaVine is “gettable”...nearly identical physical profiles (Zach is a jumping jack tho) and stats. LaVine is a chucker getting empty stats on a losing team while Book is a young star...not hating at all but what makes their (apparent) trade value so different? Is LaVine disruptive or was his coach actually a clown? I’d love either for Orl

I thought about swaping Gordon for Isaac, but then I don't see a future for ORL with Booker and role players. PHO could try and move Bamba/assets to a 3rd team to move up in the draft (GOTF) or to get a young player that fits. The GSW idea was a good one, with Bamba + Fournier for the 2020 GSW 1st.

I agree with you. This deal feels pretty weak. I know of alot of teams who can offer better.

I actually think that Lavine is being underrated by many, but I'll answer your question about why I value Booker higher non the less.

  • Booker puts up more points on higher efficiency: 26 ppg on 62%ts is elite.
  • Booker is a better passer.
  • Booker plays better off the ball.
  • Booker is two years younger. Not a huge difference, but considering his progression - Booker has gotten better every year he's been in the league so far and is still years away from hitting his prime - 23 is more valuable than 25.
  • Overall taking these factors into consideration, Booker has more upside.

Booker is also highly polarizing, and I'm not sure anyone really considers him a "superstar" as you put it. Even Suns most Suns fans consider him to be a great second option - but don't think he has the upside to become a guy you build a championship team around.

Exactly. I concede Booker is a much better offensive guy but Lavine is way more athletic and shoots like Klay Thompson while being a much better defender. I think its only in RGM that Bookers value is inflated despite both being in the same category by most gms as rising stars/guards with most potential.

Its not an outrageous offer if your basically offering 4 mid-late lottery picks worth for Booker who is not yet a superstar. He may be Harden, he might not be bc of his ego. Basically I have Booker as Lavine plus our own lottery pick (#7) worth and Lavine can be had for 1 mid lottery or 2 late lottos.

I think Beal can be put into the conversation too. Not sure why LaVine doesn’t have same to even more value than both — his contract is much friendlier — on RGM that usually is a huge value inflator.

To me Booker is equal to a J. Brown/D. Mitchell, while Lavine is more like a D. Russell/B. Hield.

Based on what? Brown is a very physical and willing defender. Russell isn't a great defender (or elite shooter like Book/Hield) and Hield is an elite shooter with nothing else. I honestly only know what I've seen of each and I don't disagree with your rankings, just wondering if your reasoning is the same. Hield, to me, is the biggest question mark...amazing 3pt shooter, the times I've seen him play-he absolutely avoided defense (granted, a few years ago), got a big deal and BENCHED soon after. Puzzling.

Jaylen Brown scores similar numbers, but I wonder what he'd do in a leading man position, like Booker?

Lavine, also a bundle of questions for me...mostly BBIQ, as he has all of the tools. Why is his value questioned by Chicago fans?

I love Booker's ferocity but I can't say I've seen enough to really evaluate. I suspect I'd value him like I value CJ...trade him to ORL and let him be Harden in front of a defensive wall and he'll put up 30/10.

Same questions and projections with Beal...people proposing AD-level packages? then I read that he's bottom 5 defensive players in the league? I saw somebody here suggest Beal can't shoot, so I changed channels quickly

ORL needs that kind of single-focus scoring savage to balance out their team...I guess who doesn't?
