"Re-tool" Pelicans around Zion/Ingram/Herb/Murphy
Fun experiment. Say you have a directive to only keep Zion, Ingram, Herb, and Murphy on the Pelicans, and remake the roster around them the best you can with realistic trades. What's your plan? Example trade ideas that makes sense for both teams?

Daniels, Herb, Ingram, Zion, Val
Alvarado, Hawkins, Naji, Murphy, Nance
Seems fairly obvious that you just upgrade this by trading CJ and picks for another star.

That will not work considering money since Murphy and Daniels will ask for that bag.
There is two options for this team and that is go for average point guard(someone like Tyus Jones) or try to bring back CP if he has something left and try to upgrade at center( both moves using CJ, Daniels and picks) or go in for small ball and go all in for star loint guard(problem is there is noone availible outside Hawks duo probably and they are not good fit).
There is ofc course option of trading BI or Z, but i would put my priority on getting rid of CJ. He is grey mentour of the court but he is terrible decision maker on the court.

CJM to either a desperate contender or a rebuilding team looking to start winning and have young guys ready to develop.. Then find a two way guard.
The quickest version is DJM to NOP, CJM to Orlando, and assets to Atlanta. I would throw in another asset to turn Nance into Capela..

Was thinking CJM for WCJ and sign Tyus for MLE

Yours is definitely more realistic, but I think Tyus goes for more than the MLE.. Orlando/SAS as the first two, but thinking Utah and Toronto as well.
But could be a sign and trade tied into the CJM deal, I doubt NOP is worried about hard capping themselves (both because they have plenty of room and have no interest in spending to the apron..)
WCJ’s cheaper contract and spacing is probably more interesting than Capela’s defense.

Re: "Re-tool" Pelicans around Zion/Ingram/Herb/Murphy
Some cool ideas here. Yea CJ going out (or accepting a bench role) would be best for sure. I wish the front office could look past the "leadership" label and be willing to improve that spot. Magic and Nets might be the only teams who actually make sense for him, though.
Nance is a liability/non-factor now. His expiring 10$mil. should definitely be moved in some way to upgrade before next deadline. And JV- solid, great guy. But since he's a UFA who should make around MLE on his next contract, it sure would be nice to trade for an upgrade who really fits well with the young core. Even signing Hartenstein or Goga to that same MLE contract may be a better fit.
I'll post some ideas of what I would do later.

Along the same idea:
Pelicans trade McCollum
Pelicans receive WCJ, Wallace, Giddey
Pelicans move off an aging but still very good player and bring in a center and a younger group of guards.
Magic trade WCJ, Isaacs
Magic receive McCollum, 24 FRP (OKC via Utah top 10 protected)
Magic get a player to play next to Suggs in the backcourt, a pick that most likely will not convey this year and reduce the number of bigs they have.
OKC trades Wallace, Giddey, 24 FRP (Utah)
OKC receives Isaacs
OKC is sending a part time starter in Giddey and a player with potential (but will be a backup behind Williams) and a pick for a player that can play beside Holmgren at either the 4 or 5 while not taking the ball away from SGA.

That looks like a huge overpay for JI to me. He can’t stay healthy.

Re: "Re-tool" Pelicans around Zion/Ingram/Herb/Murphy
it's going to take a lot more than 45 games (out of 64) of 15mpg for Isaac to have actual value again. Encouraging sign that he's played as many games this season as he did in the previous 4 combined, but there's way anybody's trading a future pick OR a Wallace level talent, let alone both.

I get that, but in reality the cost is not that great. Wallace is valued as potential.
OKC with the Rockets pick is picking up a player with equal potential. One of those players is being sent elsewhere or rotting on the bench behind Willaims.
At the same time, Giddey has probably maxed out what he will be - a real good rotational role player.
Bringing in a defensive presence in Isaacs keeps cost low and allows Holmgren to move out of the lane on offense - limiting the abuse he takes on his thin frame. Defensively, Isaacs and Holmgren are interchangeable.
In closing, OKC is really giving up 1 player and 1 potential player.

I disagree.
JI cannot stay healthy. His value is considerably less than a productive rotation player on a rookie contract, a promising rookie and a FRP.
I can see OKC giving up one of those, maybe. All three? Ridiculous.

Not a chance OKC does that. A much closer deal is:
Pels get Giddey....a pass 1st PG to others who want to score and saves Pels $
Magic get CJ....a scoring PG next to Suggs and a vet to help the youth
OKC get WCJ...a small C who can shoot the 3, saves Chet vs bigger C's, and has a cheap contract locked in

Watch what happens with Mitchell in Cleveland. Why? Garland might become “available.”
It would take one of Murphy or Herb with McCollum, but Garland is great fit in New Orleans.

I don't think I trade WCJ for CJ and a first, let alone straight up. CJ is overpaid and shoots the 3 worse than WCJ (and somehow Suggs is higher). Not to mention CJ is 33, he will age out before our guys hit the start of their primes. There is a lot if teams that like WCJ that certainly would offer much better deals.
Magic say thank you, but we like our guy.

CJM and a FRP for WCJ and filler seems to fit.
I dont think CJ has the value for a straight up swap for WCJ.

A young all star level Pg is a great fit in most franchises.

I agree. Atlanta is definitely owed value.
I don’t think Orlando is owed anything for taking CJM on. I have him as a slight positive as he’s on a declining contract, but the cap space Orlando gives up is the value they pay for him.

Not to quibble but CJ does not shoot the 3 worse than WCJ. I get he may not be on your timeline but he is a much better shooter than either player. Just from a pure percentage play, CJ is at 41 percent to Suggs and WCJ at 40 percent. More importantly, CJ is tied for 9th in the league with the amount of 3 point makes per game. He makes almost as many 3s as Suggs and WCJ do COMBINED (3.2 vs. 3.3).
I think the chances of trading CJ are unlikely and I think we'd try and use different assets to get him if it came to that.
