We traded Haywood and a 2nd to sign a worse player with a torn Achilles. Upset? Idk if it’s that serious but I’m sure some people are. Is it a good or even positive move though? Probably not.

He tore his Achilles at the end of December, when does he even return? He’s now torn his ACL and his Achilles, will he even be able to defend like he used to? He hasn’t been played over 15 games in a season in his career. It’s a weird move for sure and it’s unfortunate we shed another asset in a salary dump to make it happen, just not good business.
He's the last man on the bench. Does it really matter? Never understand why so much uproar about the last players on the bench.

The last players on the bench are players that's ok with not playing and that can be ready if suddenly he is needed

My issue with the signing is the Heat need size, not another guard that can’t even play. The Oladipo ordeal got me to stop believing in rehab projects. Plus the Heat made a luxury tax move getting rid of Haywood, when they literally just got Drob off the books and that should have been more than enough to clear out the books. Instead, they continue to push that limit with overpaid low value players.

It does when you shed an asset to add him. We had 7 months to get under the tax to see if something could shake loose and we actually get an asset instead of giving one away. Or maybe something finally materializes with Terrys expiring to shed some money by February. I can promise you no one was racing us to sign a player that wouldn’t be in the NBA if not for us who currently has a torn Achilles.

It’s not an uproar, it’s just pointing out and discussing a short sighted move that depleted an asset from us yet again when we still had plenty of time to work through that. Just seems lazy and it was very predictable. We still need a big, we can’t sign one now until later in the season. We have 4 PGs on the roster and there’s a good chance only 1 of them will be in the rotation.

I’m not against a rehab project, especially if someone like Dame would have joined. My thing is, why do we continue to waste the time and resources on a guy like Dru Smith? We’re the only team interested in what he’s got going on right now.

Its because you all believe teams run a 14 man rotation and that all players are willing to be the 14th man.

Dame made his decision to go home.for 14 million per year for 3 years.

Oladipo was brought here to a starter. Smith is the last man on the bench

All things considered with Dru Smith and I really hope he's proven to be back and fully healthy and actually showing it behind the scenes. He's most likely viewed as a well respected locker room guy and the face of true perseverance. He was having stretch last year that looked like he was about to change the absolute look of this team as a big defensive play maker who had perfected a nifty step back 3 point shot that was going in with some serious consistency. He's the absolute tailor made arch type you want running with Herro.

I'm praying for modern medicine here and that he takes the course of a Kevin Durant in terms of the way that Achilles has healed. I'm sure know one has worked harder to get back then Dru Smith. On a side note Dru Smith showed more in a two week span on both sides of the ball to have a much more impactful ceiling then Haywood Jagsmith. We went down a bad well over playing a 6'5 220 pound player as a 4 due to massive limitations in his offensive game and his low volume 3 point conversation rate was also highly overstated. Highsmith's and McGruder's are the absolute worst archtypes that this coaching staff falls in love with and dies hard trying to prove there worth.

Once McGruder was traded to the Pistons he fell off the face of the map. I'm almost certain that it's more likely that Highsmith is playing in Turkey rather then getting the Nets some 2nd rd pick from a playoff team. Jagsmith's are a dime a dozen in this Heat system. A pure scrap heap find that Heat twitter befriended and propped up. If Marcus Garrett ended up being healthy he probably would have taken the Heat defensive jag moniker and Highsmith would have never came to fruition. Ending the Duncan and Highsmith era is a positive step in the right direction in turning this roster around. If Dru Smith is healthy he will make an impact even if it's just bringing along Jakucionis in practice putting him in a blender.

I have never at any point said this team should run a 14 man rotation, if anything it needs to tighten it.

Correct on Dame, I’m saying thats the type of player you take a rehab project on. Not someone who’s barely in the league.

At the end of the bench you want someone who is ok with being a reserve and someone who can contribute outside of playing and someone who is mature enough to be ready to play after not playing for weeks. Smith is someone who knows the system and likely a player they want mentoring Jakucionis.

I know you don’t like Highsmith but come on MWP!! He has not shown anywhere near what Highsmith has shown. Haywood has been a rotation piece in playoff runs and he has defended great against players like Tatum, Banchero, SGA, Trae, Julius, Lamelo, Haliburton etc.

Tatum is shooting 4-30 against him over the last 3 seasons for example.

He is absolutely a solid piece to have on contending teams, we’re just not a contending team despite trying to pretend that’s the goal

We currently have 1,842,882 under the tax line. That's currently more than enough to cover a tenured 10 year vet at the vet minimum of 1.8. We can't sign Kai Jones cause he'll count 2.3 million against the cap. Most likely we go into the season as usual with the 14 man roster and it will be much cheaper to sign someone in season on a prorated contract. We also probably want to have the funds to sign some 10 day contracts if needed. What you see is what you get right now. With also one tradeable 2nd rd pick I don't see how we get off Rozier either unless we want to take on someone like Jerami Grant. The likely scenario is carrying Rozier on the roster and burying him at the end of the bench until the trade deadline were the buyouts are more reasonable. Rozier is currently counting as 26 million against the cap but will be bought out at his guaranteed figure of 24 opening up the roster spot and space needed to sign a replacement in the buyout market.

If Dru Smith did not get hurt I have a feeling we would be having a much different conversation. Dru was passing the eye test with flying colors. Highsmith gave you the feeling like he was doing good out there and he did have his moments defensively but his game overall as whole is a silent team killer. Highsmith has no more value than an Amir Coffey who just signed a non guaranteed deal. We overstate the value of players like Highsmith and expect teams to give us draft capital when they could just pluck a minimum vet off the free agent scrap heap.

I liked Babbitt a lot more. At least he was a true killer behind the 3 point line. What was frustrating about McGruder was spo playing a 6'4 180 pound guy wet at the SF spot. Very reminiscent of Spo playing Highsmith at PF. The problem is Highsmith is useless as a SF much like McGruder was useless as a SG.

I think Highsmith wanted to play and he seen the writing on the wall. He likely wanted to go somewhere he can get minutes to prove his next contract. Highsmith was the 7 or 8th man, he would of been pushed to 13th man here.

I think Highsmith wanted to play and he seen the writing on the wall. He likely wanted to go somewhere he can get minutes to prove his next contract. Highsmith was the 7 or 8th man, he would of been pushed to 13th man here.

For sure he was going to be buried and it seems he was also going to be pushed by Keshad Johnson as well. In the end it all worked out. Not sure if he even plays with the Nets. They probably just end up buying him out and letting him sign wherever once his knee is recovered. They have so many young players they need roster spots for I don't see him lasting long there.

Imagine Mitchell and he taking turns playing POA defense on opposing point guards all game long?

We traded Haywood and a 2nd to sign a worse player with a torn Achilles. Upset? Idk if it’s that serious but I’m sure some people are. Is it a good or even positive move though? Probably not.

He tore his Achilles at the end of December, when does he even return? He’s now torn his ACL and his Achilles, will he even be able to defend like he used to? He hasn’t been played over 15 games in a season in his career. It’s a weird move for sure and it’s unfortunate we shed another asset in a salary dump to make it happen, just not good business.

The Heat front office has significantly declined. Even if this is a one year deal, there are so many other questionable decisions this team has made that I see treadmilling for yet another season. First round playoff exits year after year are not a successful season. Team’s either grow and get better, or they need to be dismantled. A treadmill team is just low energy and difficult to watch.

We were in the finals like two years ago. And we just stole Norm Powell for free without compromising our future.

WTF?

You guys really don't pay attention to the rest of the league, do you?

He's the last man on the bench. Does it really matter? Never understand why so much uproar about the last players on the bench.

The last players on the bench are players that's ok with not playing and that can be ready if suddenly he is needed

Dru Smith is okay with not playing because he’s been physically unable to play for the last two years.

And ready to play if suddenly needed? Dru Smith is the complete opposite of the player you are describing.
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

I truly think the Dru Smith signing was just (for some reason) a sweetheart deal for a system player. But more than that, it was a deal to shore up the cap for now and for the future. Only guaranteed this throwaway year, and next year can be cut loose if needed for cap space, or a perfect small filler contract to trade for an impactful player if they come available.

This is nightmare fuel but also would not shock me one bit as something Spo would do now that Highsmith is off the roster. Keshad clears at around 6'6 so that inch taller over Highsmith officially makes him a small ball 5 in Spo's eyes.
