I get passing out for an open 3 but you have to hit over 40% of your 3s to have it out value a shot at the basket at 60% or higher. It's simple math but maybe the more open looks for 3pt shooters can get those players in the groove where it helps them make other shots. There has to be some type of analytics to see those numbers and maybe Spoelstra/Butler has seen those numbers.
Being a dominate scorer is also a way to create open looks for his teammates and I'd wonder if consistent scoring by the team helps 3pt shooters more then just getting a few more open looks.
I agree, you have the shot then take it. You’re the best player. The team feeds off you
100 40% 3s... 120 points.
100 60% layups... 120 points.
The big issue between these 2 different shots is you're lucky to hit high 40s with 3s, with layups you're able to shoot 80% or go to the line. You should take the much higher percentage layup/push shot anytime it's available.
Especially with Jimmy who’s always a threat to draw a foul off his physicality. He does it way different than Harden and Embiid
