This is actually the most positive Heat news I have seen in some time. Not only are we going to get out of the 52 million next year for Butler but we might get out of the near 27 million we owe to Rozier, we also have an early termination clause on Duncan's contract

We could be sitting here in the summer with over 60 million dollars in cap space, and potentially a 50+ million dollar trade exception if Butler opts out and we don't move him at the deadline.

Need to convey this pick this year if a move doesn't materialize we could tank next season and take on a bunch of really bad expiring deals next year for draft captial.

The early termination option is Duncan's, and I wouldn't expect him to terminate the contract unless the Heat are ready to sign him longer term at a lower but still healthy number ... which would once again be a mistake.

Y'all really don't want to re-sign Duncan? I think his skillset, IQ, and chemistry is hard to find and he is a lot more valuable to the Heat in its pursuit of a championship. In both recent Finals appearances, he directly contributed to the 3 wins.

I would love to resign Duncan on a team friendly deal

His ETO is 9.8 million next year so i would say that’s a fair market offer to extend at if they want to go that route. At this point i have no illusions the Heat org views him as a lifer. It would save the Heat 10 million in cap space next year if they did something like this which would help them stay away from tax while maintaining the contract to trade.

Music to my ears. I've been following Duncan since his g league days - even remember his first in-game dunk his first year with the Heat. Great Heat story closely similar to a UD trajectory.

Just watched the end of the OKC - Warriors game. Yeah, ain't no way they giving up Wiggs, Schroeder, GP2, and Looney for Jimmy lol. Hell, Wiggins alone may be better than Jimmy at this point.

Recency bias at his finest. Warriors have been mid like Heat and are out of the play in tournament. Wiggins been fine 17 pts 44 FG % which isn't really that efficient or impressive. And not even close to Jimmy. The rest of the role players have been fine to mid. The Warriors package isn't something to crow about. The only thing of value we would get from Warriors is their picks. Wiggins or any of the role players might help win a few games here and there but are not going to change the trajectory of this team. Thats why FO should stick with the plan of no contracts past 2026.

My argument isn't that the Warriors players are great. I was half-joking about the game last night. The point is that Jimmy is mid too and wouldn't change the Warriors trajectory at all either.

I would absolutely resign Duncan. I don’t even care if he gets a multi-year contract, as long as it’s for a reasonable price. Dude is a good player to have around.

Nobody is holding a gun to our head saying we have to trade Butler for a negative value contract. He can stay on the team, and then if he wants to be a big boy he can opt out of his contract and give us a 50+ million dollar trade exception.

If it’s Beal or he stays, I’m all the way in the camp of suspending him for the entirety of his contract length if he wants to be a crazy person. He can be 36 going on 37 the next time he plays basketball for all I care about it.

I saw Jimmy’s 56 point performance against the Bucks yesterday l, and I didn’t get as much joy out of it. Jimmy’s off court performance is about to damage us more than he ever helped on the court. I hope they don’t budge on Beal, but I got a bad feeling that they will. We may end up with Beal and multiple picks. Hopefully they just don’t trade him for now if that’s the case.
