Sammy, I want him too, but Mikal's trade may have set the market. We'd likely have to give up Bam.
Mikal was so expensive because of his age but also contract. His 23-24M for two more years allows the Knicks to sign OG who they just traded for and have a legit two year window until some tough decisions are made. Nets knew this and made Knicks pay up.
Every situation is not the same.
Paul George is a top two way wing player. What are the Clippers going to get for him if he doesn't take their 3-155M deal like Kawhi just signed? Nothing? Wiggins and some parts from Warriors?
It's complicated. Donovan on his last year. If he doesn't extend it's pretty clear Cavs will trade him. And Herro Duncan (maybe to a 3rd team) and 2 FRPs is really not that bad for a dude on an expiring deal.
OG went for RJ (herro has more value around league), quickly and a 2nd round pick. Knicks are out. Nets are out. Our two biggest competitors for Donovan. Who else is competing for Donovan that he's willing to extend with? Should be the real question.
Cuz herro Duncan and 2-3 frps is looking about as good as it gets for donovan. Need to look at deals from all angles and not in a vacuum.
