So Winslow, DJJr and 2 first rounders? 4 “assets” for a player with a huge contract that most other teams fear? No thank you! Let’s not get desperate to close the deal. I rather ride this one out since Westbrook is an expensive boom or bust. If anything, our 2021 expiring contracts just became golf today with the 2021 free agency turning to gold!
Best case 1 young and unprotected 2023 along with a few of our expiring contracts... And by young I mean DJJr since we essentially already accepted the fact that he was going to Dallas for Butler, so we can go back to thinking that.
4 assets because we also turn JJ and Dion into expirings, that adds into it.
I'd obviously not like to give those pieces up but I dont think just trash gets it done
To me Winslow, unprotected 2023, DJJr and protected 2025 are what I would call the sweeteners here... am I right? I say two of those at most should be included and not anything more. Even that is making me sick. We need our young guys for quality depth. They are in this perfect stage of their careers where they are already quality bargain players, but also posses the potential to bloom into something more!
I do also consider expiring contracts an asset. So Dragic is an immediate asset, especially considering he is a darn good player still. JJ and Waiters are soon to be decent assets. They aren’t terrible players on decent deals in today’s era, with soon to be expiring deals.
That deal above is worst case scenario if you ask me. It may be a deal that is meant to appeal to OKC, but let’s not shoot our selves in the foot to bail out OKC of this mess they are in.
We’ve already seen numerous times that Goran is not as good of an asset as we thing, expirings aren’t worth what they used to be.
DJJ is a weird case. He’s young and improved, however if he has another good year he’ll likely get paid pretty solidly next year taking away his “prospect” status
The 2023 pick unprotection doesn’t mean much as we’ll be a contender that year anyways. We’re already giving the pick up.
The 2025 pick is given to Cleveland. Cleveland honestly is gonna want a sweetener or 2. They have no reason to take on a longer deal when they can just get rid of JR now and we’re screwed. Without a team like Cleveland we can’t do the deal.
If we have to give up 1 extra piece than we want to make it happen, you do it. We’re also giving up JJ instead of Kelly which works out better below.
And the one thing I agree With you on is that this is as far as I’d go. I’m not giving up Bam or Herro under any circumstances.
A team of
Westbrook/ Nunn
Herro/ Robinson
Jimmy / KZ
Kelly / Patterson
Bam / Meyers / Henson
We also have 25M coming off the books heading into 2020 and a 1st round pick
