I say this not because I don't like goran (Actually think he is the best PG we had since ............Williams/payton????), but right now we are not going to win the championship in the next two years. If we built our team around the goon Squad (WWJT) and add maybe a Noel/Okafor we would have built our own eastern power house. The beauty is that all of them would only have used up a little less than 35 million in cap space this year and the next.
2016/17
2.5/ Winslow
5.6/ TJ
22.1/ Whiteside
.8/ Richardson
31/ Total money committed to current youth
~5 mill for either Okafor/Noel
That leaves us with Bosh (maybe 23.1) and 50 million left to play with. 73 without Bosh and no state taxes
I am all about securing our long term future once the goldenstate/Cleveland fiasco has ran its course.
Okafor and Noel are there for the taking, and I like both of them as potential key player we can really develop to great pieces in out system due to their age and talents. The issue we face is the fit.
I see zero chance Whiteside and Okafor can share the floor, and we just gave White the Max. Okafor needs space inside, he can't defend PF's, it just won't work.
Noel isn't a natural pairing either, but maybe if he can develop his jumper he could play at PF, he's got the defensive quickness. Still probably no dice. We're just not in a position to trade with Philly.
What we should really looking for is a young scoring/3 point shooting PF that can hit shots and defend.
Personally I've developed a fetish for another Philly player - 25 YO Robert Covington. I really feel he's one of the most underrated players in the NBA. very good defender, very mobile, can really shoot the 3, on an extremely team friendly contract.
I would start him at PF here today if we had him, like him more then James Johnson/Mcbob/Williams.
