that also was at the 19th pick, and when HS'ers were aloud to come into the draft, so you basically had to pick a HSer off his potential. I don't see a potential guy (Jordon, Randolph mainly) picked that high by Riley, when there are alot more NBA ready and mature players in the draft.Flash3 wrote:Dorell Wright was drafted on potential, too.
Jordon at his size shouldn't still be a labeled a complete potential guy. Players of his calibur entering college last year like Rose, Beasley, Gordon, Mayo all played at a very high level throughout the college year. For the most part they played relitively consistent throughout the year, for freshmen. Jordon on the other hand didn't. He started off decent and was moved to the bench by the end of the year.

DeAndre Jordan is similar to a lot of players that came straight from HS. You are drafting on potential that has a huge variance: he can be a total stud or a total bust. He has impressive physical tools, but he is blood raw and there are concerns about his desire. Given our position, we can't take that risk.

From the Toronto Sun via Hoopsworld:
The headline mentions Miami, but no where in the article does it mention them. Why would Hoopsworld mention Miami when the article doesn't? Looking too far ahead I think.
Raptors' Calderon A Fit For LA Or Miami?

With so few teams having cap space, the most Calderon can expect is a mid-level offer, which is expected to be in the neighbourhood of $5.6 million US, doubling his stipend from last season.
Sign-and-trade scenarios are possible and teams conceivably can clear space, factors that could lead to a more lucrative offer for Calderon.
But the fact remains that one of Calderon or Ford must go.
There is no market for Ford, while teams privately covet Calderon, who would make both a playing and cultural fit in markets such as Miami and Los Angeles.
Not that the Raptors needed further evidence of the growing divide at the point, but quotes attributed to Calderon highlight a rift with Ford.
"I would like to start and that's the most important thing,'' Calderon is quoted as saying in yesterday's edition of the Spanish daily sports newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, a sentiment he first shared with visitors to his website.
But now comes the kicker.
Continued Calderon in the article: "I've been two years with him but I don't know if I could be another year because things would have to change."
Barring a complete personality makeover by Ford, which doesn't seem likely, nothing can change in Raptorland.

I think this offseason we need to look towards adding a shooter and depth down low.
-sign Kwame Brown to a reasonable contract, he will rebound the ball, play tough man defense, and shoot a decent percentage.
- draft Derrick Rose, adding the PG of the future
- Draft Joey Dorsey with 2nd round pick for toughness, rebounding and good defense.
PG: Rose, Banks
SG: Wade, Cook
SF: Marion, Wright
PF: Haslem, Marion, Dorsey
C: Brown, Blount, Anthony
End of the year, let Marion expire to make room for Brand for a post presence.

I thought you don't like to add scrubs that will affect our cap space next year. Kwame is not the same as the young players who has a potential to improve.BBallFreak wrote:I'd be OK Wade2k6's plan. Brown does, at the very least, provide a good defensive player

How about this for retooling.
1. S&T, JCN(3yr 12million), Mike Miller,Jaron Collins For Haslem,Blount
2.Draft Micheal Beasley
3. LLE(2yr 4million) Kwame Brown
4.Dont Use MLE- Save money for 2009
5. S&T Quinn For 2 rounder
C-Zo-Kwame-Sasha Kuan(R)
PF-Matrix(Expiring)-Beasley-Collins(Expiring)
SF-Mike Miller-Dorrel
SG-Wade-Cook
PG-JCN-Banks
2009 we would have about 18 million in cap, So we Sign Mehmet Okur to 4yr 40 million.(Something Different),Ron Artest 4yr 32 million(I think artest will only get a 8-9 million range)
2009 Team
C-Mehmet Okur-Kwame
PF-Beasley-Sasha Kaun
SF-Ron Artest-Mike Miller
SG-Wade-Cook
PG-JCN-Banks
Wow, A man can dream

Kwamw Brown is only 2 years old and was clearly one of those High School kids that needed to go to college first. He has the physical attributes that you would love on your starting center. He could also be a steal if we sign him to a three year-type of deal with a team and player option on years two or three. After the first year we'll know if he is worth devoting time and money.
He is a good defender and is strong. His BB IQ has been questioned but that is the are where having a Bob McAdoo can help. We could make him into a solid center who makes no mistakes and plays defense and stop trying to make him into what he is obviously not, a top center.
I would give him a fly with a small contract to play a role.

I still don't understand why Memphis turned that trade down. I really think they were scared after everyone trashed them for the Gasol deal.

yes, and it still infuriates me that they did, but maybe it will all work out for the best
right after that Wade got shut down and Marion not much later... so we wouldn't have had a chance to see them with Miller anyway
Wallace is still an idiot -- he should have done that deal ESPECIALLY because of the Pau deal... maximize your cap room, get rid of Cardinal's albatross (no pun intended) contract and give yourself a blank slate.
