Also FA is after the draft.

Bagley+Collins might be the worst defensive big man pair in the history of the league, can’t see that happening

I don't think that you base your decision on who to pick on Collins.

Then I’d trade Collins on draft night because they will inevitably share time on the floor together and you will throw whatever value Collins has right in the dumpster lol. I don’t know where you even start to design a defense around those two

The ultimate tanking commanders. But honestly Collins sucks. I don't see a way for him to stick in a starter role.

r

If the hawks draft Bagley they may as well trade Schroder, but I doubt they go that route. I think JJJ with Prince and Bembry is some nice defense, or maybe they go Bamba. I love Bagley but it’s going to take a creative roster and coach to make him fit

I don't like him much but the Hawks are supposedly very interested. Could be smokescreens though.

LuessiT wrote:I don't get the love for Donte. He measured at 6'4.5 with surprisingly low wingspan, has been at best average on defense and doesn't project to be a good defender at the next level either. He tested better athleticly than many expected (including me) but he hasn't really shown that that is functional athleticism. His jumper is pretty good but it's at a point where it gets overstated imo. His numbers from the line are a bit worrysome for me for someone who gets pegged as an elite shooter. He has some potential as a tertiary handler and playmaker but you have to really like his chances of improving on those skills to draft him above others in his range.

He's not one of the players I'd be excited about picking, but he's ok value at 17. He's effectively 6'5" w/ the normal shoe raise, 6'6" wingspan, can shoot w/ range, and is functionally athletic. Certainly looked functional when he had that 2-handed block on a guy at the rim. Also in the combine was exploding to rebounds off the rim and showing off impressive speed in transition, especially when he finished w/ that Euro-step. Has good intangibles between the awareness and moxie. He can play the 2 spot sufficiently when Gary Harris, Booker, EJ Gordon, Redick, Mitchell, McCollum, etc.; do. I think the key to whether he can make an impact or not comes down to ability to play the one. He may have the quicks, there he does have the size, and he shows some chops at running an offense, while possessing good ability to create outside shots and hit off the ball from that position.

You wouldn't take Bagley, though, and neither would I.

He just feels like one of those guys someone will draft at 22 and end up with a Dan Majerle caliber player.

A Thunder Dan name drop though? As the kids would say these days thats lit af. And-1 for you sir.

This whole draft has that feel imo, a lot of potential solid role players, some richer than others. And all to be found throughout the mid 1st until the end. But to your point, if you think Grayson is Dan Majerle then you take him at 17 no question...

Of the above list, I am currently pondering my top 5. In no particular order, as of yet, I have:

Zhaire Smith
De'Anthony Melton
Chandler Hutchinson
Khyri Thomas
Elie Okobo
Xanadu

Not only does our 5 need to be a respectable shooter plus passing is almost as important. In fact I would say shot blocking is at least third on the list of skills our center need. Skills our center needs.
1a. Rebounding
1b. Shooting
2. Low post defender
3. Shot blocking/ passing

Welcome to the club

If by low post defender you mean keep him in the post all game then yeah. Get him out of the paint or in a pick and roll and he is useless. Duke went to the zone because him and Bagley were continuously shredded defensively. That type of play won’t cut it in the NBA

Yeah by low post defense I meant low post defense lol. Meaning I think he can body up with guys on the block. Also think this idea we need our 5 to be able to switch onto perimeter players is vastly overblown. I would gladly sacrifice switchibality for all the other plus he gives us. Giannis is perfectly capable of being our shot blocking help man. But we need somebody else who can body up bigs in the post which I think Carter can do and do well. As far as what we should give up I was hoping Bledsoe or Parker and 17 could get us there. If need be involve a third team.

Anyone but Troy Brown. So it’ll probably be Troy Brown.

Omari Spellman reminds me of David West with more range on his jumper. Hes really enticing and underrated. Basically just the fact hes going to be a fantastic pick and pop big should make him valuable to us. Plus hes a big bruiser body type that can play like a big bruiser. Bridges and DDV have ate up all the attention but Spellman should be talked about more as a quality prospect. You just gotta love those Wildcats, they're winners.

Spellman was pretty damn good in the combine scrimmages.

One of these highlights is a tip in on the wrong basket but he did play well.

I actually liked a lot of passes he maded. If he slims down even further, I can easily see him starting at the 4 spot with time. Just solid all around.

My first thoughts watching this: I can't believe Anthony Bennett was the first overall pick in 2013. NUMBER 1.

Anthony Bennett could be a fair comp for Spellman but in 2013 you take Bennett at 17 no question.

Anthony Bennett had a standing reach 2 and a half inches shorter, height an inch, was about 15 lbs lighter, and fancied himself as a big guard whereas Spellman plays like a modern undersized 5 who can hang on pick and rolls and shoot. Bennett was a Fatoine Walker style player, Spellman is Horford style. Don't think that's an apropos analog.
