This doesn't move the needle a lot for me in the positive direction but it does move it. we also didn't get rid of anything more than the last two guys on the bench.

We gave up nearly $6 million in cap space, that is a better asset then just about anything on our roster besides the obvious.

to do what with? sign another zaza type deal?

JayMKE wrote:Meh. Ish and Kratsov probably candidates to get cut anyways, I would of been mad if we included picks. Really no idea why we signed Delfino to the deal we did tho.

That's the thing. If we had just not felt compelled to sign Delfino and Neal, and then traded Ish and Kratsov for Butler, then the nearly universal sentiment on this board would have been "Good. Glad we just went with a 1 year stopgap in Butler to supplement Middleton until Giannis is ready for more minutes in 2014-2015 rather than wasting a bunch of money on multi-year deals for mediocre players."

But this Butler trade simply CANNOT be looked at like that or in a vacuum because we ALREADY signed Delfino and Neal and cannot undue those signings.

In a shortsighted way, of course you do.

If given the options of either receiving a fish, or being taught how to fish, you'd probably take the fish...

And because we'd get upset that you took the fish, you'd accuse us of wanting you to go hungry...

I'd say you probably aren't very good at fishing and I'd rather learn it from somebody else.

Or you'd just stay sitting there with your dental floss and gummy worm for 20 more years wondering why nothing is changing.

If you did try to teach me, your first and last lesson would be the best way to catch a fish is to try not catching it at all.

It would actually be to invest something that has a shot at catching a fish, no matter how small, then investing in something that will never get you a fish.

I will echo the sediments that this would have been a good trade had we not signed Neal and especially Delfino. Hard to say who, but either Herbie or Hambone decided this would be a good move so we could sell five more season ticket packages while taking minutes away from Giannis and Middleton.

I think you said it right the first time. Create a team that loses a ton of games, then watch that team turn into the Bobcats.

Nice attempt, but that reply doesn't make much sense either. The options are receiving a fish or being taught (properly) how to fish. The parallel here is rebuilding through the draft and young asset acquisition. Hammond himself even recognizes that is the best way to do things, especially in the Bucks circumstances. Maybe he'd even be decent or even quite good at doing it that way. We'll likely never know. All we do know is that he has been terrible at executing the mandate he has been given by Kohl.

As far as "fishing" goes, I'll put my "fishing" methods up against the Bucks anytime. The Bucks would be in much better shape over, especially over the last 7 years, than they have been. I'm confident most here would agree with that. Not sure how many of our readers. 75% at least. More likely 85%-90%+

No, it's use an asset like cap space to get a pick that has the opportunity to turn into Tayshaun Prince or Serge Ibaka rather then trading it for Caron Butler to get 30 wins instead of 28.

GAD is obviously correct, ITT.

Also, following this team is pointless unless you hate life.

This wasn't a John Salmons "oh you gave up nothing, whatever" trade, we gave up an asset that has proven year after year to have value in the league.

Who's to say we aren't building through the draft and young assets? Sanders, Henson, Giannis, Knight, Middleton, Ersan (kinda), Udoh, Mayo (kinda). Butler is going to be the only old guy in the starting lineup. We aren't going to get a top 5 pick with this roster, but the idea is the same. Sanders, for example, would have been a top 10 pick in hindsight and who knows what Henson/Giannis will turn into. Saying the FO failed because they picked up Butler instead of a #28 pick is a little bit ridiculous.

If you were fishing, you'd be in the middle of the ocean looking for a great white instead of chasing more realistic goals.

John Hammond is like a bad contestant on the 'Price is Right' playing the Cliffhangers game.

We are all absolute gluttons for punishment, investing this much time and energy in a team like the Bucks... Our biggest chance to fix a lot of previous mistake and actually become a contender in this league is by being bad this year (not hard at all from our position with a few moves) and grab a potential SUPERSTAR in the upcoming draft. It is so easy to do, or at least give ourselves a chance to do but we just refuse and think 'staying competitive' is better. Ugh.

As opposed to what? Fishing for catch and release bluegills like Butler and wasting your bait?
