I don't think he needs to be at "anchor" level to help coordinate the defense and be vocal, which is what he already does and what we need him to do. I mean, from a vocal standpoint we are talking about upgrading from Moose and Henson, with a guy that has shown to be a vocal "QB", as it relates to helping Parker improve focus/positioning on D

I don't know how ya'll think Moose isn't vocal enough, I'm not sure we have any other player that has a known on court catchphrase that every fan knows. Can't be much more vocal than that

Well hopefully lifting with Giannis fixed everything Thon was struggling with in summer league play

Maybe a team like the Rockets or Wizards think he can put them over the top in the playoffs and trade a pick

I just don't think there's anyway we get fair value for him. Every trade that is "possible" is lopsided and not even worth disusing imo. The question then becomes is the money you could save from not resigning him bring in someone(possibly more than one) who has a equal/greater impact on the team.

If you get him for 3 years at 60 or 70 million could you actually pass that up? Thats essentially what you're paying 3 bums in Henson/Telly/Delly (take your pick).

Another question is, do you trust Horst(Kidd) not to blow it in free agency?

If I am GM right now, there is absolutely 0% chance I offer an extension for Jabari. I let him prove he can get back to himself and show something on the court. In fact, I am up front with him and say we love your game, but to commit multiple years and top dollar to you, we need to see it on the court. The guy has yet to play a full season. The Bucks are obligated to do absolutely NOTHING to appease him. He can ask for $100M but the Bucks hold the cards here. And let him go to RFA. If a BKN or some other team is dumb enough to MAX him, let them take on the risk. Save the money for a FA who wants to play with Giannis.
We're going to turn this team around 360 degrees.

What you mean is that you would not offer a healthy Jabari the max, right? Because healthy Jabari is definitely getting the max.

If we can find a trade partner, I would be up for moving on. Love him to death, but my heart can't handle watching every game in fear.

Bulls, Hornets, Kings, Nets, Hawks, Jazz are some teams that come to mind.

No doubt healthy Jabari GETS the max. I'm just saying even healthy he's not worth it.

Sure, but there aren't to many clubs that are comfortable with just letting there number 2 pick walk for nothing when they have control.

That's where it becomes scary.

That's why I'm in the camp to strongly explore a trade, hopefully you find one worth doing. You cash in for whatever you end up with and eliminate the variable. Like a stock you're waiting to rebound to get your money back, but you just cash it in now even if it's a loss so that you at least get something and you can eliminate the variable and risk from your books and move forward with a new path. Cut your losses basically.

Of course there's a risk he might recover and be back to what he was, but there's also a risk he becomes a huge albatross contract that weighs down the team for years. For some reason GMs are deathly afraid of the former (don't wanna look like the Blazer with Bowie over MJ), but not the latter.

I think it is clear Jabari wants 20M+. Is there any advantage to signing him earlier besides Goodwill?

I see all the risks. I just think at the end of the day they will be way to scared that they give away a 25ppg scorer who could have ended up being the difference.

I think there is no chance they sign him early by the 16th. Going to be a talking point all season.

I wonder about the looking lost at times.

From what I have read the coaches and players believe him to understand the offense and defense very well. To the point where they consider him a coach on the floor. And he's very vocal.

So I struggle with that as both cannot be true.

Like you said he was a rookie and coming straight from high school. He is smart, but I think coach on the floor is being very generous lol. Thon is watching film and picking out defensive errors on the bench but he'll need more playing time to be diagnosing stuff on the floor. I'm not saying that Thon is a bad defender by any stretch just that he is young and needs more time before he can be the anchor.

He seems to be the most vocal player out there and players listen to him. So coach on the floor? Yeah, that is sort of how it works right? know the plays / needs, be a strong communicator and get the teammates to listen and respect you. He's seemingly done that.

Just sayin. We can call it whatever we like.

Sure but bottom line is that he is still a rookie and when we really struggled in game 4+5 and the first half of game 6 it was Monroe+Giannis+Mids+JET+Delly that brought us back from 60-42. So sure players respect the rook Thon that played 562 minutes last year but the expectation that he is going to cover Jabari's issues on D is a bit much.

I don't think Bucks should pay him over 12 mil, IMO. Maybe something like a 2 year 30 mil tops. See how he recovers and if he has 2 good years, then he can get a max contract.

Badger I don't think you are exactly getting the point. You are making it sound like we expect Thon to solve Jabari defensive issues, we aren't. We are saying Thons communications and Rim protection is going to help Jabari.

Don't make it into more than it is, it is just a good pairing if Thon continues to look like a guy that is going to become the QB of the D in the future.

Sorry, I never said that and I do get your point on him being young. But much like Dudley did for us, being a vocal guy, it helps.

You can hide a 20ppg below average defender and a guy like Maker can help. A guy like Giannis will really help.
