4/$60. The question is which team that is shut out in FA that gives it to him.
An undercovered story line is how badly the Blazers imploded. "IF" it turns out that LMA, Rolo, Afflalo and Wes Matthews all leave that team....good lord. That may be the biggest implosion in league history. Paging Epi.
Could be somewhat intentional. At center, the reason they won't give Lopez big money might be because of Myers Leonard. This past year, he was a 50/40/90 guy at center as a good rebounder. Him and Plume are their future front court, and Leonard has the shooting ability of LMA potential in terms of stretching the floor efficiently, not as good but still fills that role, and Mason Plumlee replaces Lopez's hustle.
At SG, they also spent a relatively high pick on McCollum, who has been stuck behind a lot of players. But what he did in the playoffs as well as to close out the season, they probably are looking to give him a chance.
I mean, at some point, the Blazers were stuck in that no mans land. Perennially an average seed in the West, no real upside to win a championship. They had a bunch of young pieces. It doesn't seem like a pure impolision as well as a calculate move to get younger. If you're stuck on a treadmill, even as a playoff team, It might be time to try and move on.
Overall though, they could still be solid team next year.
PG: Damian Lillard
SG: McCollum
SF: ?
PF: Plumlee
C: Leonard
Thats a lineup with 3 shooters already. Aminu plays good defense, so he will get a large portion on minutes at SF. Two legit big men, and Aminu can play small ball 4 so he will get minutes there. Overall, in terms of "going young," Id still say the Blazers have a ton of upside as a young team. I think Leonard and McCollum could be a lot better than what people expect.
