Then the soft cap creates situations where teams are left choosing to over pay a guy or let him walk and have way less to replace them.
But I can't see either the players or some owners going to an NFL style CBA. It would likely help with the competitive balance/super team stuff too. But again I'm not holding my breath.

I wonder why no league has a performance based pay system. Give everyone a minimum based on their years of service (500K for a rookie), and then tie in the rest of the salary to some system.

Well, Porter only gets 207 if he makes an All-NBA team or wins MVP this year. But Giannis gets 228 regardless, that's signed and sealed.
