That seems like a premature overpay.

he doesn't have much of a track record. I wonder what injury he had that kept him from playing as a rookie.

I think he had back issues.

Yeah he had a back injury that required surgery while he was at Missouri, missed most of the year but came back right at the end, then had another back surgery and missed his entire rookie year. Basketball's hard on a healthy back. We'll see, hope it holds up.

Max contacts and a soft cap is a garbage system. The max contact creates a world where the true best of the best are underpaid and then the next wave of guys are overpaid because basically 2-3 guys on every team get around the max. Then the soft cap creates situations where teams are left choosing to over pay a guy or let him walk and have way less to replace them.

But I can't see either the players or some owners going to an NFL style CBA. It would likely help with the competitive balance/super team stuff too. But again I'm not holding my breath.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

I wonder why no league has a performance based pay system. Give everyone a minimum based on their years of service (500K for a rookie), and then tie in the rest of the salary to some system.

I just assumed getting a vaccine was part of the deal with the Porter jr contract. Wild that they paid him without it.

Thank you! I've been waiting to see a discussion on this, especially those following it closer that can tell me why! Is there more money in a new contract vs an extension? I assumed he was far enough into his career the answer to that was no...

There's no reason why average salary (and whatever cut the union gets) would go down. They could probably game it so they came out ahead.

MLB has this exact system.

I think MPJ caps out as an elite #2, which makes his contract fine since that's about the going rate.

Well, Porter only gets 207 if he makes an All-NBA team or wins MVP this year. But Giannis gets 228 regardless, that's signed and sealed.

Amazed that Harden likely turning down an extension and opting for unrestricted free agency next summer isn't dominating the headlines. But then again, he's not a star in a "small market" so.....

Dude sure does have Miami written all over him doesn't he?

He's originally from LA, would be funny if he demands there and a Westbrook trade for him has to happen. Re-uniting KD and RW. BKN obviously would have to make it a 3 team though. PG13 based trade could work too to get to LA
Resident Lillard truther since 2015.

At some point the national guys have to get all over this. The assumption was that the Nets were working on making sure their big three were all locked up long-term before the start of the season.

But it just points to the fact the Nets are great on paper, but on the actual court, the dysfunctions of those three guys (health, ego, etc.) seem to always surface.

The difference between signing now vs later is $62 million for Harden. Seems like he knows he can get this same contract later no matter what but wants to maximize his profit for his last contract.

Me, like most other people would lock in the money but I assume he knows he’s getting maxed no matter what so he’s shooting for the biggest payday first. He’s staying in Brooklyn, they will do anything to keep Kd and Harden.
