Then we must sign KBD to long term deal. With non guaranteed options of courseMN7725 wrote:KGdaBom wrote:MN7725 wrote:

part of MLE is Wolves only way to get more than two years of team control
Can the MLE be used to sign draft picks?
yes, Clips used MLE to sign Evans and Thornwell, their two 2017 2nd round picks, to 3 year deals last offseason
Thornwell's 3rd year was non-guaranteed
Evans had 3rd year team option
Can do things like that

You guys getting me exciting before even seeing him. Talking about long term contract before even he has put on the jersey yet.
Hopefully Thibs takes a liking to him, wonder what looks a 2nd rounder will get when a 5th pick struggled for minutes after a while.

That is why they want to sign him to long term deal with non guaranteed options.

Dunn got more minutes than his play deserved his one season here. I don't think we have any worries about KBD/Okogie/Patton getting minutes if they are healthy and they are deserving

Re: Wolves select Keita Bates-Diop
Again, yes, only a summer league game but for an older prospect, KBD looks like he needs a ton of work to get stronger. I did not like the way he goes after rebounds, many times he just was able to tip the ball and not grasp it. He's looking very skinny and lacks sudden movement. His length does allow him to make up for his average footspeed on the defensive end, but he's either going to get quicker to play the wing, or stronger to play the 4. On the positive side, he looks like a smart player who doesn't force things and looks like he knows where to be as a team defender. I'd like to see him get the ball in the mid post area a few times and make some quick decisions in that area of the floor, either a quick drive or pullup, or hit a cutter. Hopefully he can channel his inner Kyle Anderson and develop a smart, overall game to overcome some of his below average athleticism and bulk.

I'm not seeing this below average athleticism you refer to. He's not elite, but I would say he's at least average to above average in terms of leaping and quickness for his size.
He could probably get a little bit stronger, but I wouldn't want him to bulk up to the point that he loses any of his speed.

I think that he can become a better version of Bjelica. I like KBD more than Tolliver.
He is a very good pick for a late second round pick

Re: Wolves select Keita Bates-Diop
I really like what I've seen from Bates-Diop in summer league. He defends well, has a good looking shot (though I wish he'd hit a few more 3s), and seems to have a high basketball IQ. I can see him having a 10 year career as a 3-and-D combo forward, which is incredible value for a 2nd round pick. The one part of his game that surprised me was that he seems to have a decent floater game when driving to the basket.

He has a very developed game compared to most draftees these days. Smart, high BB IQ and has great defensive potential as well. Twice the player that Derrick Williams ever was.

His 3pt touch seems for real. He has a very nice mid range and floating game which could be useful. In defense I like how well he is staying vertical. He is good boxing out opponents and while he hasnt the quickest feet his lenght make UP a lot of ground.

KBD reminds me a little of Danny Green in some ways.

Reminds me more of a shorter Lamarcus Aldridge.

I wouldn't call KBD "athletic" but I think he's much more fluid of an athlete than Aldridge.

I think KBD will struggle with his lack of athleticism. That will be his NBA Achilles' heel. If he can use bb iq to play the old man game then I think he will stay in the league, but he won't be tearing things up anytime soon.

I've always thought Aldridge was very fluid. He's just too much finesse to be elite.

I know someone who had dinner with KBD last night and spoke very highly of him in terms of character and maturity. Same person had dealings with Dunn two years ago and not impressed with him and was pretty much the opposite..

Not surprised. My brother knows KBD's mom from grad school and said he's a really solid kid.
