Now that KAT signed, we can’t legally trade for a player who signed a designated veteran deal like Simmons.

Absolutely zero world where I would trade Anthony Edwards for Kevin Durant, despite being willing to fully mortgage everything outside of him and Karl-Anthony Towns. Realistically, another team likely beats out the D'Angelo Russell, Jaden McDaniels, and picks package I outlined (albeit I am not positive), but that is what I would consider.

According to me the core (Ant Kat JMcD) is untouchable...Dlo Beasley are available...in my head too!

For what it is worth, I thought that restriction was that you can't trade for two players that are on that extension; I think one signed and one traded for is fair game, if I am not mistaken.

I honestly could be wrong, though, the rule is confusing.

Thought exercise - Brooklyn doesn't like Ayton apparently, and Miami doesn't work b/c Bam can't be traded with Simmons on the roster...revisit D'Lo for Simmons? We could even include Beasley if they want to get off of Joe Harris' extra year. Then include Prince to make up the salary difference, though I think the trade works either way. You could also do Vando if you were really high on Simmons.

Now Brooklyn can roll out: D'Lo/Beasley/O'Neale/Vando/Bam/Curry/Claxton/and of course David Duke.

That's pretty solid! right? RIGHT?

They also continued their talks with Utah about Gobert, which have been on again and off again since before the draft. The Jazz are expected to drive a hard bargain for one of the best defensive players of this generation, but the Wolves remain interested in pairing him with Towns in a super-sized frontcourt. Other bigs who could be explored include Indiana’s Myles Turner and Atlanta's Clint Capela, though there has been very little traction between Minnesota and Atlanta over the last few weeks.

I am glad the Gobert talks have resumed. I guess the million dollar question is what does Utah want and what are we willing to give? It does sound like twin towers is the end game.

If I were to guess it is more like what a team like CHI wants to ship out to Utah and what we might actually want that a team like that and give assets and use space for.

It's called the Designated Rookie rule, and in this instance, it pertains not to Durant himself, but to current teammate Ben Simmons. The Designated Rookie rule allows teams to sign players coming off of rookie contracts to a five-year extension rather than the typical four. A team can designate up to two rookies for such contracts, but there's a caveat: only one of them can be acquired by trade. Simmons, himself on a five-year deal signed with Philadelphia, already occupies one of those slots

You can have up to 2 designated rookies on a team but only one can be traded for. We didn't trade for Kat so we could still trade for a Bam or Simmons. I believe Towns should be off his designated rookie extension come time to extend Ant. Dlo didn't get the designated rookie extension either.

Sounds plausible. Contrary to what I have been reading, but let’s assume this correct. Then the question is Dlo, Beasley, and Prince for Simmons. I am fine moving all 3 players but I wouldn’t touch Ben Simmons. I would be fine moving him to a third team if meant getting back significant value.

I'm thinking Kessler would be in the deal for sure. I don't know what else. Russell to match salary.

For fun. Suppose Durant was willing to come to MIN. He always liked the city when he’d visit his ex-fiancée.

Asking price is ANT … (and DLo, Beasley and a 1st).

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Ant, but this is Kevin Durant, first ballot Hall of Famer. Do ya?

No way and I love Durant. Durant is past his prime. Ant will be great for years to come.

We definitely need to look into a consolidation trade, to de-clutter the roster, and find minutes for others.

I think the five players the Wolves would shop hardest are

DLo. .. it looks like the most likely trade destinations chose someone else.
Naz .. like him, but he’d be more useful to a different team
Beasley .. I think he provides a valuable skill, but it sounds like they seek minutes for Nowell

Prince .. he has extra value here, but getting Kyle makes him expendable. Signing Wednesday made him trade eligible
Pat Bev .. another player with extra value here

Targets: big bruiser next to Towns, or a replacement PG is DLo or PatBev are dealt.

I'm thinking the exact same thing conceptually. I have no idea what they will do but they need to do something. My guess is they move Prince and Beasley.
