He was a good soldier when they offered him for Harden, but he can’t be happy after Embiid threw him under the bus, and Doc didn’t defend him. PHI fans and media are harsh, and he has it coming after his performance in the playoffs. The fact that opponents can target Simmons, especially in the playoffs, will deter even more buyers. Even before the playoffs, the Rockets already showed his value isn’t as high as PHI fans want. Simmons is only going to reclaim his value if he fixes his self-confidence and improves his shooting, but it’s unlikely to happen in PHI, so the fans aren’t going to get what they want for him.
I think the basis for a deal if what moonpie proposed. Simmons goes out for the best package the team can get, some of the assets go to TOR for Lowry, and Lowry goes home to PHI. If that team is MIN, I think it’s Beasley, Rubio and a 1st, and Rubio and a 1st (or the PHI 1st) go to TOR, which saves the day for TOR who didn’t trade him. Rubio’s expiring and a 1st is better than losing Lowry for nothing, and maintains salary for future trades as an over-the-cap team. Lowry would fit well with Beasley or Curry 2.0.
I understand last summer, PHI wanting to see one more time if an emerging Embiid and Simmons could win it all, but they were never a fit. I think if PHI had traded Simmons last season, they would have gotten a much much better trade return.
They could finish 0-82 for 25 straight years and I wouldn't feel bad for them
