How many first round picks would both sides need to include to get Boston to say yes?
BOS in: D'Lo, Okogie and Reed
BOS out: Brown and Hernongomez
PHI in: Brown and Hernongomez
PHI out: Simmons and Reed
MIN in: Simmons
MIN out: D'Lo and Okogie
EDIT: After writing the below analysis, decided to throw Reed in the trade, going to PHI, to make the value closer. Think Reed makes a lot of sense in Boston and it is something Philly would ultimately be willing to give up if it makes this kind of trade work. Still think Boston would need draft picks from both parties, but we get closer to a fair trade.
Boston fans have been begging for a true PG. Russell fills that hole and think he would work well with Tatum. Okogie gives them a wing defender after losing Brown in this hypothetical trade. Hernongomez has gotten no time in Boston thus far, his size and shooting might mae more sense in Philly, especially since they could use some size with Simmons abscense.
PHI gets a true star for Simmons in Brown, someone who should be a good third on a contender once they figure out how to flip Tobias Harris for someone who is good. They do the trade in a hearbeat.
If the stars align and it looks like we can get Simmons without having to trade Ant, then I think we have to do it. A Simmons, KAT, Ant trio makes too much sense, and as much as I want it to work with Russell here, I have to think that the Wolves FO would be willing to pull the trigger.
Think it would all come down to how many picks we (and the 76ers) would have to give Boston, as a Brown for D'Lo trade straight up is not of fair value. Boston would need some draft capital to make this work. Is 2 FRPs each from us and Philly (so 4 total) enough?
It all comes down to where Boston sees themselves. If you asked the average fan a week ago, people were saying that Brown and Tatum will never work together, and it did seem like a blowup was imminent. There was a players-only meeting since then and they have won some games, so think the outrage has tampered a little bit, but definitely think a Minnesota/Boston/Philly trade seems plausible here.
It would also allow Philly and Boston, two hated rivals, to work with an intermediary so that one star player is moving out of the conference.
When it's all said it done, I doubt Boston has the courage to do a trade that would send Brown to Philly. But could a warchest of draft picks plus D'Lo make them think about it?
