Rambis on Pekovic and Milicic

Post#1 » by Klomp » Mon Jun 21, 2010 3:46 pm

Rambis is excited about Thursday's NBA draft, but more importantly, he reported that Nikola Pekovic, the 6-11 center from Montenegro who was drafted by the Wolves in the second round (31st overall) in 2008, is expected to join the team this season.

"He's won a Greek championship, he's won a European championship, and now his goal is to win an NBA championship and get a gold medal," Rambis said. "His mindset is to come over to the NBA now, so I do believe it will get done, yes."

Rambis also is convinced Darko Milicic, the center acquired from the Knicks who averaged 8.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 24 games for the Wolves, will be back with the club this season.

"I'm really high on Darko and he's high on us," Rambis said. "His agent in some respects is a little bit dumbfounded and shocked that Darko is so positive about this situation. His deal is around the corner from being done, so it's something that we feel very positive about."

I'm getting the impression Johnson will be wearing a Wolves uniform next year.

There's no way we can keep all those guys. It's looking like you guys are right about WJ but we'll be trading a big as well, likely Al Jeff.

Edit: I really hope we're trading down a slot with Sact. though instead of just giving away DMC.

I'm not real sure on how we should perceive these comments about Pekovic and Milicic ... it reinforces our forward heavy situation, and everyone knows Jefferson, Milicic, Love, Pekovic, and Hollins is not happening.

Then again, last year we went with three PG's, so maybe this year we'll draft three big men ... :o

Jefferson, Milicic, Love, Pekovic, Hollins + Cousins, Aldrich, Whiteside.

I think it just reiterates what we've thought all along. Jefferson is gone. We have not heard a peep about our best player all offseason. That has to be by design.

Milicic/Pekovic
Love/

Look for us to add an athletic 3-4.

Yes and Favors (or Favors & Johnson both) is our guy, IMO ... he is the one player that has been most consistently recognized as having star-qualities.

You know I've had similar thoughts, but then I think of the black hole Al has shown he can be, plus, his inability to pass out of double teams, etc and it's like okay - Love and Milicic need to add 2-3 points/game and we can add in Pekovic as well. Maybe even add in Cousins or Favors. not to riup on Al, but 15 win teams have to make these kinds of decisions sometimes.

So I think Al is being shopped everywhere right now. 1st, we want to send him to NJ for the 3rd pick.
If that doesn't work - fall back option in a sign and trade for a FA that didn't get it's 1st choice destination.

Yeah I think the added ball movement will help everyone add a few more points. That and hopefully walking away from the draft with guys like Johnson or George.

Using our one chance at cap room on Darko Milicic and Nikola Pekovic would be a freaking disaster.

Explore trades for a starting caliber player. Nobody in particular, just saying it would be pretty disappointing if that's all we got out of free agency.

I agree with Rev, Rambis said that Pek will be coming to the NBA, not the Wolves.

Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
