Timberwolves draft %

Post#1 » by tvwolves7 » Wed Apr 29, 2009 4:09 pm

Would someone be able to post the % of each draft pick for the Timberwolves. I know the first pick they have a 7.6% chance, but after that I was not able to find anything. Thanks!

There's a chart there, I guess it doesn't work that well since Wolves split there chance with Memphis. You could figure it out though.

I love you Wikipedia. You may be unreliable and biased, but ... I don't know where I'm going with this

Can I ask a question for someone that knows the mechanics of the lottery?

I understand that the lottery order is determined by picking out a four-"ball" (they don't use balls) combination, like "2-7-14-13"

14 x 13 x 12 x 11
----------------------- = 24024/12 = 1001 combinations.
4 x 3 x 2 x 1

One is disgarded, and they match the result to a pre-established combinations that the NBA has created to match their lottery system odds.

Here's my question:

Do they draw one time, or three times?

In other words, does the first combination assign an order of "MIN #1 - MEM #2 - WAS #3" ...

.. Or does the first combination assign "MIN," then they draw again (ignoring another MIN) and the next combination says "MEM," then they draw again, and the next combination says "WAS?"

This, I think.

I've always assumed the latter, but either way is statistically equivalent.

I believe when they draw the combination that says MIN= #1, they throw that out and draw again until someone else gets #1.

I still don't understand why the ceremony isn't shown live.

They do use balls.

And as others have said they draw again for each pick.

They draw again, and if I recall right the year Portland got Oden, when they picked again, another Portland combination came up, which of course was thrown out.

And yes, Minnesota's balls are weighted so they'll never get drawn. Darn us for having big balls.

I agree. It would be high drama, would get good ratings, and it would dispel a lot of the conspiracy theorists who say that Stern is going to adjust the draft for what's best financially for the NBA, and not one individual owner.

The balls are filled with tiny magnetic particles. Stern, who had a magnetic strip surgically inserted into his left palm, guides the ball of his choice to the surface via remote viewing. This process is repeated until he draws the desired amount of balls. It's a simple process really. I think Art Bell had a special about it a few years back.

But how do I really know the lottery is rigged? If you number the alphabet, starting with the letter "A' from an increment of six (i.e. A-6, B-12, C-18, etc.) the words "New York", "white balls" and "calculation" each add up to 666.
