Everything starts with Marks. I just fundamentally don't agree with his team building. Even before KD and KAI, he never placed emphasis on wings and always picks undersized Centers. This team has lacked explosiveness during his entire tenure. Zero explosive high flyers drafted or traded for. Passed up on multiple legit 3&D wings in the draft. Traded Bey for Shamet. etc etc.
Yes, good guard play is important but unless he realizes that dynamic wings are a essential component to modern basketball, team is not winning a thing, even with an all time great like KD.
Let's see what he does at the deadline. Won't hold my breath tho. Probably trades for another midget guard so JV can run a 4 guard midget lineup.
I don't know man.
Marks found guys like Sumner, Yuta, kept Claxton. Its hard to act like this is really a roster construction problem.
Especially with the Pistons. That team sucks.
Were just not playing the right way. So whos to blame?
The players?
The coach?
It seems like there is no one thing that is the clear answer for our defense collapsing last night. Especially when we played so well vs the Sixers.
the blame happens when the rest of the starters suck.
Ben Simmons: 35M, 0 points
Joe Harris: 19 M, 7 points
Thats almost 55M on bad contracts, and these guys are starters. Its even worse when you factor Patty who gets paid to not even play and babysit the max contract 6'10 guy who couldn't score on me.
Team has a good top 3, a couple of good off the bench players but no starter caliber players.
Joe Harris is an elite shooter. Hes back to 40% for the year.
Its not that bad of a contract.
Simmons yes. Hes the biggest issue.
But the defense collectively was horrible last night. Thats either on the coach of the players for just not caring enough.
